Yes, training for a marathon this summer has definitely helped me feel a lot better in the present, even though I think suicide is still something that probably exists in my future.

I started marathon training running on my own in the dark at night. Something quite interesting has happened over the course of my "marathon journey" though - I've started to make friends and connect with people in real life. I've also been posting my progress on Instagram and connecting with other runners on there, some of whom are running the same marathon.

I think when you have goal to focus on and you feel motivated and genuinely enthusiastic about something, other people pick up on that energy and are happy to be part of it. They want to help you and share their experiences and knowledge. I've met some great people over the course of the summer and had the best time. Having my own thing going on has definitely made me care less about the "left out" feeling I generally carry around with me in life.

Also, I've had to make good nutrition and sleep a priority and I think the mental health benefits of these can't be overstated.

I'll be very sad when the marathon is over.

It's not over after the marathon.

You're well trained, you've made new friends and you're sure to meet more people during the race.

And after the marathon is before the next marathon!
Or you dare to try an ultra run ...

I never thought I would enjoy it so much. It's been a blast. The marathon is in a different country and there are a lot of runners staying in the same hotel so that will be exciting too. I would normally be quite anxious about going away on my own but having the running and marathon in common should make it easier to meet other people.

Thank you for kind reply :)

My own experience has been that being at home really makes things a lot worse so I try to get out and do stuff as much as possible. Even just a couple hours in a coffee shop or a run to a local shop can be a bit of respite. Going to a nearby park or other greenspace is a good free option, bonus points if you bring a book or something easy to keep yourself occupied. However I've also found once you're in the cycle of staying at home it seems to get harder and harder to motivate yourself to leave. Almost as if stuck in place with honey. Also doesn't help if you're like me and sometimes fall in a trap of neglecting personal hygiene and stuff.
Work 100% helped, I felt a new rejuvenation for life during that time. However my first I had to leave as my contract was only temporary and the second was so high stress I had a breakdown at work resulting in termination. Definitely an avenue I'll retry if I get back out of this rut and/or decide not to ctb for the moment.
I'd say go for it if you can. Even a little respite makes things that much easier to cope with.

No, sometimes I'm just tired physically, mentally, emotionally... Some days during work, I can't help but have thoughts and fantasies of how I can end it. I Don't have hobbies because nothing inspires me anymore. I lose interest pretty quick.
