I found the term VSED on this forum...voluntary stopping of eating and drinking.

I guess it would be a horrible way to go? I mean, it's better than nothing, right?

There's probably no way I could do this without my family noticing, though.

that type of behavior would lead to hospitalisation, maybe even involuntarily .

The amount of will power needed to resist the urge to drink and eat, with water and food available to you, when your body is dying from dehydration and starvation, is incredibly high.

I imagine it would be torture

Yep. Even if you successfully stuck to such a punishing regime you'd end up being so mentally unwell as a result that you'd be sectioned and forcefed.

I read up on that before. A lot of people actually tried it. It would be an agonizing way to go.

It's not just starvation. Terminal dehydration is supposed to shut down your organs, eventually leading to death. It's all I have at this point. I think the first 2 days are meant to be the worst. I just tried it cannot imagine it worse. However, if your situa is one of isolation, I can't imagine being sectioned.
Sucks if this is the only way out. I wish I had just done it already then I wouldn't be in this horrible pain.

Check this out It states after 3 days, your body breaks. I kno it's a long process not ideal but living is not ideal. I feel like a caged animal This is the only way out.
A prisoner died of dehydration in 7 days. Of course I am not into torture, but I feel I'm choosing 1 torture with purpose over another.

Last year i went 6 days, took a break and then 8 days without food while working 8 hours everyday, it was tiring to say the least but you just have to Decide what you want to do and it becomes simple. After a few days you lose hunger and may have trouble sleeping but once your body adjusts you just become very weak and tired all the time. I also didnt stop eating cold turkey, i went gradually until it was 2 small meals a day, one, drinks, then nothing...but still i was drinking tons of water and it was only 6/8 days,so not sure what 40 would be like. Still keep this method in mind as an option...from the small experience its not that dramatic, just a matter of Decision making which i think is something to consider here, like Deciding to go to the gym or change something about yourself. Death is change and thats all youre doing. I wish i could be more elaborate, hope that makes sense- learning that nothing is going to change unless i change something, that goes with getting better as well as cracking down and Ending It.

I had fasted for seven days once [sort of experiment, the Spring cleanse, to see how long I can go on]
The first two days you are extremely hungry, but the third day to my surprise was
very euphoric, I had a lot of energy all day long [I didnt work at a time] I could play basketball and do some short jogs, cycling, no problem.
I don't remember having any difficulties with sleep either.
Important thing is when you fast for health reasons you must drink a lot of water, in my case it was herbal tea [peppermint, Chamomile, green tea, etc]

Overall I remember it as extremely positive experience.

There is a german site dedicated to this method:
https://www.sterbefasten.org/index.php

The Website says:

I think it's a peaceful way to die, but it needs some knowledge. You should have a doctor who guides you.

You should wet your mouth in a special way, to mitigate the longing for water. If you do so, it would be human. The hungry feeling stays away after 2 to 3 days, as @crova says.

First, you are very hungry. After 2 to 3 days, you will get very active and in a good mood. Then, you sleep more and more and deeper. At last, there may be a deliric stade, when your doctor can give you some medicaments to calm down.

I don't recommend this at all. Not only is it incredibly hard to actually completely quit feeding yourself (not to mention, your family will notice and forcefeed you) it is also pretty much torture. You dont need to be in this much pain to go out. Yes suicide is painful, but by starving yourself youre making it more painful than it has to be.

I think so, too. If one has no other means. It's like shutting your body down. Eye drops and wetting the mouth are important.
Please share what you know about it. I am under impression that after 3 or so days your body is giving out.
A case study- a prisoner who was denied water for 7 days. I wish I had another way, but this looks like it. Ceasing to eat is not difficult. The pangs go away. This *is* guaranteed to work. It takes too long, yes. Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Well animals even do this alot. With the loss of their mate they will refuse to eat or drink and eventuality die because of it. People like to correlate this as dieing from a broken heart. Basically it's dieing from starvation but it was brought on from the death of a loved one which makes the person or animal lose the will to live.

Prisoners have done this.

Slaves used to commit suicide like this. The slaves owners would have to resort to force feeding the slaves so they won't die.

There are other methods but if this is what appeals to you then go ahead.

Well if you don't drink water you should die fairly soon. Only thing is if people are around you and you collapse from the starvation before dieing they could take you to the hospital and save you.

So personally this method seems best if you live alone.

It took my friend ten days to die. He was in the hospital for surgery when he stopped taking food or liquid. He was suffering from multiple serious medical issues. In the past, he had been amazing at bouncing back, but this time it was too much. The law in his state of residence allows a patient to order "Do Not Resuscitate Comfort Care" which means the patient is given treatment to ease pain and suffering, but no measures to sustain life. He was administered pain medication to keep him comfortable until he passed.

Thank you for your thoughtful post. I'm sorry about your friend, he's at peace now. I'm glad he didn't suffer, that he had a friend by hin and was made comfortable.

Or with someone with family members / spouses who works all the time and doesn't notice (and its easy to lie). This is a tempting way to ctb, but I'm not sure if I have the willpower to do this personally.

It is hard. Not drinking is difficult. I am doing it because I have no other way out. And, having failed a "sure" method recently, I am heartbroken and out of options. I imagine ppl. may think I'm an idiot and don't kno what I'm doing which is true. I k

I'm waiting for the "euphoria" to kick in. It It must be possible. I have nothing to live for, a situation that seems doable, but this isn't what I read. Food hunger is not the issue. It's thirst. I'm so beyond despair that it's come to this but all options are spent.
