So one of my new year's resolutions was to finally start that YT career I always wanted. It's a channel about everything, but I pay special attention to obscure ethnic groups, religion, and controversial takes regarding mental health, disability, and self-help. And of course, plenty of art, makeup, and original stories. I basically want it to be my little corner of the internet.

I started off posting a couple softball videos and some fun shorts. And maybe I'm naive for this, but I did not appreciate whatsoever how fast shorts get churned through the algorithm. In a matter of hours, my shorts got thousands of views. I only got a tiny handful of comments, but most of them were trolls.

One asked, "Why isn't she at work?" Another asked, "Are you a man or a woman?" Nothing serious, just annoying time wasters.

The one that angered me the most, oddly enough, was when I was posting about human trafficking. Someone took the time to comment, "Already knew this."

And? Congratulations for your Nobel Peace Prize, sir.

To me, this is a classic Bean Soup Theory comment (Google it, you won't be disappointed). And I can honestly say, out of all the hateful and idiotic things people have said to me online over the years, I think Bean Soupers are among the worst.

My content is very clearly aimed at people who don't know much about human trafficking and may only be familiar with stereotypes shown in the media. You may have known this, but hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people did not. Saying you already knew this adds absolutely nothing to the conversation and only serves as an attempt to make yourself look smart. I deleted his comment and blocked him.

I feel like a lot of men online (not all, just the vocal dickheads) have the attitude that if women don't want to deal with trolls, sexualized comments, threats, etc that we should just stay out of the public sphere. Like we're in Afghanistan.

I guess I'll just have to speak louder. But I shouldn't have to.

I bet a lot of YouTubers start off with haters. Beloved Markiplier probably had some hate at the beginning, but that didn't stop him. Keep doing what you love and let the haters hate. They have nothing better to do and not the balls to put themselves out there like you're doing! Be loud and proud! 😊

Always love the encouragement.

And while I won't announce this for obvious reasons...I post so much of my material on SaSu first.

is absolutely right. Continue what you are doing the right people will somehow find you. I always thought about becoming a youtuber since finding a job isn't working out for me. I studied and have the certificates and should be any companies dream employee but my weirdness throws them off i guess. So self employment aka content creator might be my calling. I'd aim for gaming and PC tools etc. and avoid stuff like religion and politics since both are to dangerous in the current climate. I don't want anyone finding out where i live and harm me or my family.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to not let people like that get to you. People leave stupid and thoughtless comments looking to provoke some kind of reaction out of you. It's best to just remove/ignore problematic comments like that. You should keep going with your YouTube channel and if you stick to it and stay consistent, you will garner an audience of people who will like and appreciate your work for what it is. It just takes time.

Don't give up. :)

I encourage content creation. I use to have my own podcast. I absolutely loved recording and editing my work.
I read creepypastas and did reports on serial killers and why they potentially did what they did. Psychological disorders and how the slightest differences in brain development could have extreme outcomes.

Congrats on starting the channel. It seriously takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and start doing the thing you dream about. Ignore the trolls, they're just unhappy themselves, I sometimes regretfully leave mean comments on videos when I'm in a terrible mood and always feel bad about it after. So don't take troll comments seriously and keep making the videos you like :)

I assume the TYsphere is little different than the xitterverse in that a shit ton of the troll "accounts" are not humans even by now. Bots, bots everywhere. Fuck 'em.

I see everyone on Youtube gets trolls... especially in the beginning when there aren't enough positive posts to drown out the trolls. Men and women creators catch all kinds of shit. It is true, though, that women usually get a special kind of trolls that men don't typically get.

While it is true that you should NOT have to deal with it... no one should... there are a lot of shit people, and they will find you and shit on you. That's their thing. I'm not saying you should have to deal with it or that having trouble dealing with it is a "fault" in you... but it is also a truth that it's going to happen and if you let it derail you, then it will. Unfortunately there is not anyone who is going to rally for you and clear out the trolls.

Even when I randomly thought about maybe starting and posting things... one reason I never did was... I didn't want to responsibility of policing my comments for trolls and people looking to start fights and shit... but I knew if you don't allow comments, then you lose the positive interactions AND people are less likely to view your content if they can't engage with it or you... and in the end, that just wasn't worth it for me... so I never got around to doing anything even though I had gotten to the point of buying a decent camera and a good microphone.
