I just had an argument with my asshole roommate over some bullshit. I've been dealing with chronic pain and I've had to take medication for months. This has affected my sleep and eating habits. I end up eating less and sleeping more.
I still haven't found a job so I rely on a food bank. I keep some of the canned foods I get in the kitchen. I can't throw them away because that's food and I need it. I also can't eat all of it as quickly as I would like because of my medical circumstances.
My roommate, that paragon of compassion, kept yelling at me about leaving food in the kitchen. You should've heard how loud he was yelling. The people across the street could probably hear him. His face was turning red right in front of me. His voice just kept getting louder and louder, I thought he was going to have a heart attack.
Then he started yelling about my alarm clock and how annoying it was. Due to the medication I take I have deep sleep, which means my alarm doesn't wake me up all the time. It ends up ringing and ringing but I can't wake up to turn it off. He said the next time it rings he was going to call the police to shut it off. Can you imagine that 911 call? "Hello I would like to report a rogue alarm clock that's annoying me." I don't think they'll be sending an officer over to deal with something like that.
I had to ask him to calm down several times. I told him that I understand his frustrations and that I will do everything I can to fix these things. I also had to explain that I was unwell and taking medication, which is why I can't eat that much or why I can't shut off my alarm clock when it rings. He just started yelling louder, saying he's got problems of his own and insisting that he would call the cops on me.
Eventually he walked away, but nothing was resolved. That man is a dyed-in-the-wool asshole. He has several plastic containers strewn around the kitchen that he barely uses. A lot of them are stacked up on top of each other and it looks like a landfill. He also filled the living room with junk. There's several old books, old electronics, old toys and jars of candy and old dusty boxes. It looks like a garage or an attic. You can't even see the furniture underneath the junk. He ruined two rooms in the house with his junk which he could easily throw away, but he gets mad at me for having a few cans of food in the kitchen. Unbelievable.
I think I handled the situation well. I stood up to him. I tried to deescalate the situation. I became a better person after that interaction.
That man will never change. Assholes will always be assholes. They always yell and get mad at the smallest things you do. I refuse to let him and people like him bring me down. I try to see the positive from the whole ordeal. I practiced staying calm. I practiced dealing with negativity and I learned to deal with people like him. When we have our next argument over some bullshit I will be able to handle it a little better. When I encounter another person like him I will be able to handle them because I have experience with my roommate.

I'm so happy to 'see' you. Obviously- not for your situation- that sounds awful but, I've always loved your threads. I love the way you write. I selfishly am glad you haven't left- it sounded so bad in your last posts.

This situation sounds shit though. Where on earth are you supposed to put food? Other than the kitchen?!! This guy does just sound like an arsehole. Like- if you hate people being in your space to that extent- don't get a lodger! I'm guessing he owns the property or, is the primary renter? What a headache though. I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry about your job situation too. I'm absolutely serious about your writing though. Have you ever considered it? Or, how to get into it? I used to love the 'Captain Fuck-up' thread. You have such an amusing way of seeing the world. I would absolutely read that in a newspaper or whatever. I wish you all the luck that your situation improves.

He's the landlord's brother. He can't get a place of his own so he stays here for free I think or for a really low rent fee. I want to start posting again. It does help me get through things so I need to get back into it.
