I consider Quetiapine aka Seroquel to be a modern day barbiturate. Is it as good as the old stuff, good as the "old days"? I don't know. When my mother was alive, towards the end she was using heroin - nothing could take away her anguish better. I gave her one of my Seroquel pills one night and it was scary - she was shaking but finally did sleep.
When I was prescribed Seroquel, it would either knock me out or have me feeling disconnected and numb. This was when it was a pain in the ass to get a prescription for a benzo - the clinicians figured Seroquel was the best fit for me even though I tolerate Klonopin well. They didn't want to hear about benzodiazepines, it was all about Seroquel.
