Perhaps in the future, everyone that is born can be born supreme. Both genetically and financially, into a euphoric, lifelong Utopia. But until then, human existence in its current form will only ever make sense for a very select minority of the population. Until this happens, I hope more and more of the unfortunate can find the courage to use the escape hatch to escape the suffering.

It's really sad that we were not given a choice whether we want to accept the life that has been forced upon us or an easy way out from it all. But the way things are going, I am confident that it is only a matter of time before society comes to its senses and grants easy access to euthanasia. Or maybe even be forced to. It's the only logical thing to do.

I have often wondered if contentment cannot be gained if there are not others who suffer greatly. If life was all happiness would it not be tempered eventually?

Because they'd feel bad. Not out of any care for us, but because it makes them feel bad that people are suffering. Something that I can't quite get over is that people are perfectly fine with abortions even though that unborn child is not given the choice on whether they live or die, but when someone willfully chooses to die then they're up in arms about it. I'm at least (im)morally consistent on both issues.

As far as getting people to support euthanasia, well that's a mountain on its own. Poker is a contextual game. Some people are dealt great hands and can win their bets. Others have shit hands but gamble anyways only to lose, again and again. Yet those who win, who have more chips to play with, can't fathom folding.

What I'm trying to say with my analogy, is that a lot of life boils down to luck. Some people are very unlucky, and the events they experience growing up fuck them over when they're older. But the people who are lucky, in their ignorance, believe that all people are human and all people can be content. I agree with them. We are all human, but some of us are more human than others. They desperately want to fix people because it makes them feel better about themselves. If they can't fix us, then they feel like they've failed.

And they have.

It's definitely an interesting paradox. If everyone is happy, can anyone be happy? It seems that for humans, happiness in this world comes from the satisfaction of feeling superior to others. And it might just be impossible to experience what happiness is, without ever a having experiened what sadness is.

I mostly agree with this except for the part about satisfaction of feeling superior to others. There are many people who live humbly, even poorly, and are very happy. I wish I knew their secret because I'm constantly comparing myself to others and always feel so envious of people. Even if I got what I wanted, that envy would never be satiated.

real shit, considering no one chooses to be born I think everyone should have a right to choose death. The clinical hard-line being that suicide is inherently wrong or bad even in the face of perpetual suffering is insane. Switzerland gives me some hope, as do the states beginning to legalize medically-assisted dying for people dying of old age or illness or whatever. Step in the right direction.

Hopefully it'll progress from being afforded to ppl with chronic illness to mental illness and eventually people realize that everyone should have this right.

The exact specifics of it are definitely harder to come up with. A thought I've had is maybe a 2 or 5 year buffer period where you request death, reaffirm it yearly (if you don't and later still want death, the timer restarts) and only after those years are you afforded death. To avoid spontaneous decision-making. Probably for people over 18 as well.
