  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I know there are similar threads, but most of the answers are people who don't have/use social media.

So please, if you do have/use social media: have you thought about what to do with your accounts?
I would really like to hear (read lol) about your thoughts on this topic.

For example, this is a rough idea of what I may do

- Facebook: delete it

- Instagram: keep it open on my phone. I have 2

First, I think it's conforting for grieving people to look at pictures, so I would like to keep my account.

Second, I have quite a few acquaintances and friends with whom I do not talk on a daily basis but they do hold a place in my heart. They're not close enough to send them scheduled mails, but I do want them to have an explanation, not feel like I just disappeared and stopped answering.

So I've been thinking on asking my close friends to post a last post on my instagram stating that I'm dead. Maybe even telling I've committed suicide?

- Gmail: delete it, so they won't be able to open any account I close using the "I forgot my password" feature.

Sorry it's too long :$

I deleted some of my social media accounts before my last attempt, and some of my close friends noticed it and were successful to "save" me. So, what I'm gonna do is just change all my passwords for all social media accounts and also my emails. Log out from every devices I have, so basically all accounts cannot be accessed after I died. They also wouldn't be able to use the "I forgot my password" because they wouldn't have access to my email. I don't want to delete my email just in case (god forbid) I fail.

I have 0 post on Instagram lmao, but same as you I do want my acquaintances to know that I'm gone. So, I'm gonna delete all my chats on Instagram and leave it on my phone

I think I would just leave my social media for my family to see. I'm not that active on social media, just some pictures here and there.

I thought about asking a friend to post about my death on my FB before but I'm not gonna do that anymore. Because I think I just want a quiet peaceful death. I don't want people to know about it actually, except a few that truly cared about me. Of course I've cut them out of my life now because I felt I'd only bring them down. So I don't really know if I'd write letters to them. All my life I've been judged so I just want to be at peace after I died. No gossips no rumors. Just me.

I'm in the process of deleting my various accounts, I'm told they can take up to 6 months to be completely removed. The crazy thing is I've done this before because I made my last serious attempt 6 years ago, but people told me that my accounts could still be commented on way past the date of deletion.

I couldn't confirm my accounts active for posts by othersbut it but I've learned, so this time I'll make sure, I'm calculating I've got 12 months before I have to be gone.

I will not post about my death, those who need to know will be told I imagine.

Good luck everyone.

I'm deleting both my personal Facebook and Instagram accounts. I don't want people to be able to dig through ancient stuff I posted that even I don't like anymore.

The only account I'm leaving undeleted is the one for my cats, because there's nothing personal about me on it.

I'm also keeping my Google account in case my relatives need to recover some important passwords, for instance for retrieving money or cat product orders. I asked in my suicide note not to use the account to retrieve any passwords that are not absolutely necessary to retrieve. I hope they will respect that.

I'm of the opinion that I won't care. I'll be dead.
