So, is ligature strangulation completely unreliable ?

I read the whole ligature strangulation megathread and it honestly seemed like a reliable and convincing method. But as I digged more into it, I found many people complaining about how it doesn't work, and claiming that it's complete bullshit.
I was hoping I could ctb with this method but if it doesn't work then what's the point, I'm a bit upset about it cuz I really thought I finally found something that could work out for me. But anyways, is it REALLY unreliable? Or can I have some hope?
