Does the grade matter as long as it is SN?

Is specifically says not food grade.

From Stan's SN Guide:

Food grade versus Laboratory Grade

Depending on availability, both food grade and laboratory grade are acceptable as long as the purity is > 95% (this info is usually found in the product description or on label).

Read Stan's Guide. It won't steer you wrong.

Thank you, I was a little thrown off because I haven't come across the term technical grade on here. Hopefully just another word for lab grade.

It didn't day the purity but also didnt say it was mixed. Going to double check the packaging when it arrives.

Yes, I think the purity of it may be more important than what grade it is, though I suppose getting the best grade you can is probably a good thing to do. As I said, Stan wrote his guide because the other thread had gotten so messed up that people couldn't read it anymore. I'm sure now his thread is probably to some degree that way. But luckily all the information you really need is right at the beginning of the thread and he tried to write it for people who may not have English as their main language, so that everyone could understand it. I hope it helps you.

Hmmm. . . Now that you mention it, I've been on here since October and I've never heard of it referred to as technical grade either. It must be another term for lab grade I would assume, as you said. I can't imagine what else technical grade would mean.

Make sure it is sodium nitrite not nitrate or you will suffer a good bit. Also, it needs to be pure the purity should be something like 96 or 99. You don't want any additives aside from sodium and nitrite and trace minerals.

Hmm, so might not be pure enough then
Well, theyre saying its not pure enough to be guaranteed for food/medicine uses.

But shit, we're talking about killing ourselves, its not like if it contains trace amounts of carcinogens or metal shavings or something that you would be around for the consequences.

Food grade also often contains an anti-caking agent which is no big deal. Just keeps it from clumping.

That was my thoughts too. It doesn't list anything but the SN, so it must be enough to do the job.

Lab grade is the same as reagent grade, and that's perfectly fine as long as it's pure enough.

The grade is not important , but the % .

You may contact supplier and ask, or look for another .

Some general SN ordering thoughts :

Avoid anything pink coloured because that would only have a low percentage of SN.
95% or higher would be required.
Food or lab grade, etc, should be okay, although lab/technical grade is the better option, since it has a longer shelf life.
You might want to order 2 items : one to keep sealed, and one to open, for testing (more below).
