SN arrived, very disappointed

Hi, the SN that I ordered on June 1 from the famous craft site by a seller from Kiev (L...) has arrived. Turns out it arrived in bulk form with no professional plastic container (see photo attached).
Has it happened to other people on the forum? I d love to hear feedback. To me it is not at reassuring at all and definitely not trustworthy.

Mine from Poland came in a sealed 1 kg plastic box. Have you tried testing it for purity? It's quite easy using the aquarium test kit (https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/sn-aquarium-purity-testing.34630/), and should give you an idea how effective it will be.

Probably the best bet. I think the concern here would be that the bag doesn't inspire much confidence in it being airtight. A purity test would surely determine whether it's now high in nitrAte.
I hope it proves to be fine. You never know,it could be perfect.
On another note,is the seller even operating anymore on that site?
ETA: I have seen screenshots of SN delivered in bags,but not quite as rough n'ready as that.

I suppose you could transfer it to a better container.

Hahaha! What the heck is that? As jgm mentioned, it's probably fine. I'd recommend using a test kit on it to make sure it isn't nitrate or something completely random.

I had actually bought a back up supply of SN from a different vendor (also located in Ukraine) on the same site when I was informed that my initial source had closed up his shop on the site days after my order was passed. Both orders arrived today in the same cheap and unprofessional packaging and turns out they came from the same vendor albeit sold at very different prices. So I am left with crappy packaging SN that I will have to transfer to an adequate container, and I am totally not confident on using any.

Also shouldn't there be an expiry or best before date on SN? Can't believe the money I spent for this crap. I will give more info on the vendor if interested, just PM me.

If I may ask, are you in the US? There are completely legit sellers that will sell 99% pure SN at very reasonable rates. Mine, I believe, was under 15 dollars, US.

Wow that may be the sketchiest SN I've ever seen. I definitely wouldn't trust it. I'm sorry you got screwed over. Luckily SN is cheap as fuck.

The aquarium test isn't really complicated. It's just diluting things to a known expected concentration, then checking if that's the concentration you have, using the test strips. Diluting things enough would need a lot of water, so it's done in 2 stages.

Alternatively, just try and get some 10mg/L test strips, and follow the first post in that thread, which has the values already worked out....

That test strip appears to measure nitrite up to 10mg/L.

So you can simply follow the first post in the thread, and avoid the formulae :

If your kitchen scales can only measure to 1g accuracy, then you can use "Method 2", although you will need a syringe that can measure 0.5ml to a reasonable accuracy, eg a 1ml syringe with submarkings should be able to do that.


(Note : Optional - After doing the test that "targets" 5mg/L, you could repeat the test, and use double the amount of SN in g, and test for 10mg/L. This may allow you to see with a bit more accuracy, although there are valid reasons why we do the 5mg/L test first).


Regarding expiry date, you can probably take a guess and go for 1.5 years.
Provided you repeat the aquarium test before using, you should probably be okay.

You prick your finger (I'd use a diabetic lancer) and put a bit of the salt in it, and if your blood turns brown it's real. I wonder why he shut down his shop? Do you think it was a scam?

It's actually not... the shipping was more than the cost of the SN, so it's like 65$USD for only 50 grams. It's not as easy to get if you're in the US, I'm in Canada and you basically can't get it here anymore like that. There is another seller from ukraine, with the same exact photos my seller used, and she's selling min 100 grams for 77$ Canadian, that's insane, plus another almost 40$ for delivery.

I initially sprinkled a minute amount but felt it wasn't enough so I added more (I might have ended up putting too much SN?).

The color of the blood is not dark chocolate at all, it looks more like creamy blood.
I really don't know what to think about the results??

note: the first photo is just to show the color of the blood sample.

I'll try to Google some threads about that.
ETA = Some forum members did the test,using their own blood and got a coffee with cream colour. They didn't find it acceptable.
Re-tested with another brand got the dark chocolate colour.

Good point. It may have reacted with something to make it go foamy like that.
No discernible colour change other than foamishly-pinky.

Yes its possible but I don't have the heart to cut myself for fresh blood. Aquarium testing kit is on its way.

Many people succeeded with it. It's documented,but equally,there are many other brands,which are difficult for us to get in U.K.,such as LW,without a parcel forwarding service and one domestic supplier which absolutely will not sell to individuals now,that we know have done the job.
