Site down?

For several hours (between the last hours of dec 16 until 2:10 AM on dec 17) SS has been down... I don't know if it was just me, an attempt to take it down, or just some server maintenance.

I don't know what causes it. Even if people do try to bring it down it'll just pop back up.

Cool! ^_^ Censorship is one of the few things that makes me freak out beyond any measure.

Like rosey said it happens from time to time but this time it the first time I witness it taking for a couple of hours so I was worried it was permanently taken down but glad to see it wasn't.

One time it was down like a whole day for Americans.

i think the error was a 522 if i recall correctly, which means there was a overabundance of commands going on all at once, the site wasn't used to the activity and crashed; but i could be wrong on this.

Not saying it is this, but when illegal stuff gets posted to 4chan, the FBI literally freezes the board, sometimes the whole website.
Probably unrelated but it could be anything.

That's the error I was receiving as well. If I had to take a guess it was a possible DDoS attack. Such attacks flood the server with information and overwhelm it.

All websites are prone to such attacks. But controversial ones like ours are generally attacked more often.

This site is essentially under siege and we barely notice it.

Essentially yes, but it's not just us either. Like I said it happens to everyone. They don't always do it for logical reasons. Sometimes it's just for shits and gigs.
