My current all-consuming addition of choice is good old fashioned doomscrolling, but I hate it. Life is miserable, I'm antisocial, I'm constantly paralyzed by anxiety and I can't even concentrate on doing things I enjoy like reading and playing piano. Doomscrolling eats my time and my life is wasting away anyways, might as well pick an addiction that doesn't make me as politically jaded.

I like weed and shrooms, however they make me dumb / distracted and I work an intellectually-demanding job, plus they also make me paranoid so don't actually help my anxiety unless I only use them infrequently. I also like binge eating and alcohol, but hate the stomach aches and acne it gives me. I need something that I can overindulge and numb myself with constantly in order to make life manageable.

My father, who used to smoke, said he might pick up vaping. He said he wanted to start again because nicotine made him more social and less anxious, if that's true then that sounds like what I need. My biggest struggle is anxiety and social isolation, I hear you can hang out with smokers to make friends since smoking has a huge social component too. What do people think about this?

You'll just be vaping while doomscrolling.

I heard a bizzare thing in the news today.
It seems sour candy can refocus your brain temporarily. Not a cure but if you feel things are going downhill, a sour patch kid might slow things down.

I so relate to pretty much everything you said!

I have seriously been considering vaping again (I thought of smoking in the past for a bunch of reasons but due to weak lungs gave it up) as an alternative to snacking as I am worried about my weight gain.

Could vaping end up helping me lose weight?

vaping won't make him social the way that cigarettes do. a

and like others said, vaping or becoming a smoker will not curb doomscrolling but it will just accompany it.

It really wasn't worth it for me, I basically had to smoke to have a chance at being able to focus for about 45 minutes before having to smoke another one. I wouldn't advise it. Also, nicotine was by far the least fun drug I've tried, even caffeine is better

its an expensive habit and it doesn't really help imo. it definitely doesn't make me any more sociable. instead I lay in bed all day with a vape because it gives me something to do other than nothing. like me you'll just be doomscrolling with a vape in your hand. but I will say cigarettes are good for numbing your mood even temporarily

As a vaper, I would absolutely, definitely, 110% NOT recommend starting any form of nicotine consumption!! Vaping raises heartrate, blood pressure, anxiety levels, damages teeth & gums and exposes people to dangerous chemicals... to name but a few of the consequences.

The short period of any beneficial relaxation obtained rapidly dissipates and within a short space of time, the body will crave more nicotine. Personally, after 1 hour without a 'hit' during waking hours, things start to get really uncomfortable. After two hours I'm almost climbing the walls 😅. If the vape breaks or goes missing FULL crisis mode kicks in until a replacement can be sourced.

The most noticeable issue, personally, is that Vaping has had serious impacts on my mood levels at work in the past as 'vape breaks' have not always reliable. Maybe you could ask yourself whether you really need increased pressure adding to your life?
