No idea whether to ask it here or Recovery.
Obviously I've had the need to ctb for a long time but recently actions like looking for places to hang myself and practicing knots has become a lot more frequent.
I just wonder if I should just hit the brakes on that and actually admit that to someone at school or home? Though both actually know I've had ctb thoughts but neither actually know that I still do and to what extent.

Yeah, I wouldn't like this to result in only having to feel guilt or even worse like tied up in rags and thrown to a mental hospital (maybe not like that but you get what I mean)

I have told them before but I had also recently began wondering telling them the version without the white lies ("I would never actually do it", etc)
Does everyone spout out "Please reach out" just as an automatic response or does that stuff actually help...

That's question you can only answer yourself. I would consider these two things.
  1. You want to tell. Which I am going to give you my blind read is because you are young and your issues are still potentially solvable.
  2. Know the response. There is reason why lot of people advice against giving health care professional even a whiff of their suicidal tendencies since it might result in internment (cant remember the fancy word lmao).
If you want to tell which I actually advice so you can explore and worst case scenario rule out that avenue is that you tone down the truth. Instead of saying "I am practicing knots" something more along the lines "I suffer from x" "I am severely depressed can you help." to mental health professional. I know people that prescribed pills have helped.

I wish you all the best, and again this is based on my blind guess. If I am off the course just ignore me.

I'll probably try one of those anonymous chat services and avoid full on stating things like "I want to end myself soon"
and see if they say anything useful.

I understand this is ultimately something only I can answer, but I felt like I need input from a community that understands this stuff the most.
