They said the legend was just a game - say "Bloody Mary" three times in the dark, and she might appear. But the old farmhouse on the edge of town had a mirror that wasn't just glass. It was a door.
Four teens snuck in after midnight, the air thick with dust and rot. They lit a single flashlight and stood before the towering, black-spotted mirror rumored to be the last thing Mary ever saw before she was murdered. They laughed to hide their nerves and chanted her name.
The light died.
In the reflection, they could still see themselves, dim and flickering, but they weren't moving. Their mirrored selves stared back with stretched, grey faces and eyes full of blood. One girl turned to run, but in the mirror, her reflection only smiled, teeth long and red.
Something moved behind the glass, a woman, shaped shadow with nails like broken glass and hair dripping dark, clotting streaks. A hand pressed out from the inside of the mirror, distorting the surface like water, and grabbed the girl who stood closest.
She didn't scream long. She was yanked through the surface as if it swallowed her whole. The others bolted, but their reflections remained on the other side, smiling wider and wider⦠until the mirror went still.
The next day, the farmhouse was empty, except for a fresh handprint on the glass. And the faint sound of someone scratching to get out.
