Hi, I was fantasizing about ctb and when it got to the end I got anxiety and was really scared. What is going to happen after I die, will I just disappear? It's just so hard to grasp my mind around it, my consciousness will be gone, I will have no thoughts.. it's weird. I don't understand, it makes me scared of death. What is goin to happen? Everytime I start thinking about it I get pretty bad anxiety.

It's something that every single human that's ever been alive, have questioned. There's various of different religions and beliefs. I do know that science plays a huge role in our lives and which I'm glad.

It could either be something or nothing. It's really 50/50 and no one really knows until you take your last breath.

Enjoy your life.

It's impossible to know. That's one of the things you have to take into account when you make the decision to CTB. I personally am not religious but I believe in rebirth, which scares me as I believe it's possible to be reborn into a really shitty life, one that could be much worse than the one I'm currently living. Or you could be reborn into a great life. Again, no one really knows.

You will live your life over again, minus the attachments in this life. This, to me at least, is where the pain comes in; we become attached to everything, whether or not it is a "gift" or a fatal flaw. I do believe you "can" will yourself to death over time, just releasing things slowly.

Same. My religion believes in heaven and hell and even though I'm not religious it scares the hell out of me because I know for sure I'm going to hell (lol). The idea of being just... empty, after death is also scary. Like I imagine it would be dark and you just don't become anything. I also have this unfounded fear of what if we stayed conscious somehow in our rotting brain ;-; Idk though. Personally I like the idea of reincarnation the most. Best of luck for you dude

What you believe happens will largely depend on your religious views.

Some religions believe that the human soul or consciousness lives on after death, and goes to heaven or someplace similar. So in that situation, you presumably experience your last few moments of life, and then suddenly the scene changes to whatever venue and with your body in whatever form that the religion believes. Or maybe there is some delay or transition period. I'm not a theologian.

For those of us who are not religious, then the belief (and scientific consensus) is that your consciousness will simply stop existing. There will be nothing, no thoughts, no awareness, nothing. You will be in the exact same state of non-existence that you were before you were ever conceived [1]. For those people who are finding life unbearable, and thus choose to suicide, this should be seen as a preferable state of affairs by comparison.

If you are feeling significant amounts of anxiety about the absence of consciousness (or afterlife) after death, then it is perhaps a sign that you are not yet ready to be considering suicide.

__________

[1] Did not use the term 'born' here, because obviously there is fetal consciousness before birth.

Yeah I'm not religious so I think it's goin to be "nothingness" I tried convincing myself to believe other stuff but my brain doesn't want to accept it hahah. And about not being ready, I know I'm not ready yet. I'm just planning ahead cause I have a "max age" and I mean usually things aren't well but this quarantine has helped me personally.
but yeah thanks for ur answer. Ur comments are always well thought out:)

None of us knows what happens after death. We don't even understand why we even came into existence in this world so how could we even understand death. I have no clue, we pretty much have to wait and see.

My main belief is reincarnation. I believe that we die and then are reborn in another world as something else I guess. No memories of this world. It's how I believe we were born into this world in the first place and how we exit it.

Could I be wrong? Heck yeah, but whatever happens when we die this life in our world is over.

If I knew for a fact we just became nothing I would no longer fear death. If you're nothing then there is no pain, no thought, no memory, no awareness... it isn't "dark" because that implies awareness. It would be like before you were born... we're you scared then? No, because you weren't even capable of experiencing emotion. This to me would be the best outcome other than heaven which I don't believe in.

Nothingness is a blissful thought while I'm alive; knowing that I need not to work anymore. It's way better than heaven. It's tiring when there's always something.

I feel that way too at times. Other times I long for a heaven where I can again swim and be with my pets. I'm so tired of this suffering. I just want to be relaxed content and happy without all of the terrible problems.

Agree totally. We come into this world as a simple (in general terms) but infinitely complicated (in scientific terms) process. When we die we dont exist anymore, and 'after-life' is experienced by others we were close to.

You describe very well what I was going through some years ago. It does cause anxiety. As an agnostic I don't know what to expect and find religions to be irrational and conflicting when viewed as a whole. As I've gotten older I seem to care less but not totally. I've spent some time looking up videos on the topic and there are plenty. Many of them are not convincing to me but a few are. There are several doctors , medical and psychiatric, who have written books on the topic either from witnessing things over and over or by dying themselves. Dr Brian Weiss is into the past life regression. I can't remember the surgeon who himself died but he was an atheist who was revived and came back totally changed. Have you looked up the topic on youtube? I've said for a long time that I didn't ask to be here and if we do get sent back I'm requesting not to. I've pondered being in some other dimension with a divine being and I'm informed I'm being sent back at which point I'll ask if nonexistence is possible. I've seen enough of this human reality, not only with the behavior I see but also with everything we have to keep up with to just maintain daily existence.

My best friend died when he was only 18. It was one of the saddest experiences of my life and really did alter my life thereafter. In the months (and maybe even years) that followed, I could feel his consciousness with me. I can't say with any certainty that it was his spirit. Perhaps it was just my memory of him keeping me company. Still, I'd like to believe that he was with me in some way. I'd like to believe that I can be with my loved ones in some way after I pass.

well ive been anesthetized so lets assume its like that as the brain is no longer consciously functioning... it is absolute nothingness to the extent that it's something, thats the only way i can explain it and that i really really liked it to the extent i was kinda sad to be back. So i think death is the same but minus the waking, no time, no conciousness, nothing but also something.

My best friend died on Easter Monday that's what made me attempt to end my life I just couldn't live without him. But I do believe we will meet each other again when it's time for me to die. I just have this feeling he will be waiting to welcome me when I arrive. Silly I know, but I just feel we will meet again.

The way I think of it is I didn't exist before birth and that wasn't bad, so not existing after death won't be bad either

I believe there's just nothing and eventually you'll fall into a new existence as another being (insects, animal, intelligent being, whatever). Religion is just something that emerged to help us with the fear of death and it has proven itself to be beneficial. There's no reason to believe that there is anything later on, except that our material eventually may become another being (someonce in an infinitely long time).

You will not turn into a butterfly, a bee, algae, a so called subhuman. You have reached the apex of existence as human; you can go no farther. You will return as you, to infinity. Not only will you reborn as human, you will be reborn as You. Apart from Hindu belief, even German Philospher Nietzche. articulated this. Quantum physics suggests the same. You are you forever.. sure, things will be different; you karma makes good on the debt. You are cleansed; you are FREE. People make a big mistake when the think that happiness precedes freedom. It is the other way around.

"You will return as you, to infinity". I'm not sure what this means. Could you elaborate?
"...you will be reborn as you." What do you mean? Hinduism says that there is rebirth, but not that you are reborn as you. It's reincarnation in another body based on karma.
Nietzsche had the theory of eternal recurrence but I think this was more an existential thought experiment than a cosmological theory based on objective evidence.

"Quantum physics suggests the same". Really? I'm not sure quantum physics has anything to say about life after death, souls or reincarnation.
Sorry, I don't mean to come across as hostile to what you said, I'm just not sure I agree with some parts, from what I understand.
