• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

If aborted suicide attempts don't count, then 2+4+5+0+2+2=15

If they do, then 2+4+5+4+2+2=19

2+2+0+4 (I cut my wrists, pretty bad attempts all things considered, the cuts were too shallow though they did help, it became a coping mechanism of sorts for me for a brief period of time, thankfully no one knows about em) +0+2 = 10, if you don't wanna count the wrists 8

Exactly. Why do they assume all suicidal people are impulsive?

Mine would be:

2+4+2+0+2+2=12.

I'm not at imminent risk. I've been at a 12 for years.

  1. Have you had thoughts about wanting to die or wishing to go to sleep and not wake up?
    • Multiple times daily. (2 points)
  2. Have you had actual thoughts about killing yourself?
    • Yes, my plan can be found here. (4 points)
  3. Have you made any plans or preparations to take your own life?
    • I see this whenever I go to the bathroom and I've already tried it earlier this week. (5 points)
  4. Have you attempted suicide before?
    • Yes, and one of them even involved admission to A&E. (4 points)
  5. Do you have access to means to carry out a suicide attempt (e.g., firearms, medications)?
    • See Q3. (2 points)
  6. Are you feeling hopeless or helpless about your future?
    • I've felt this way since I was 10 years old. (2 points)
TOTAL = 19 POINTS (EXTREMELY HIGH RISK)

In most jurisdictions, this would be grounds to legally detain me for 24 hours for a doctor to access me, determine that I am indeed at an extreme suicide risk, and then detain me for at least 28 days while they figure out long-term treatment options. Not the UK though despite the means to do so being written into law (Mental Health Act 1983). This isn't some utopia where such laws are seen as outdated and not actually enforced: these powers actually do get used quite often but not for suicidal people.

You see, the real reason is because the psych wards are underfunded and there aren't enough beds for everybody. Only extremely violemt people are being thrown in the looney bins now; suicidal people are largely left to their own devices as long as they don't try to CTB in public. It's better this way, obviously, but I wish it was done out of respect for bodily autonomy rather than out of governmental incompetence.

Sincerely,
CumbriaCTB

this feels like a data collection question

are you a researcher or journalist? Do these scores help anyone in any way except for researchers, journalists, and others in the mental health industry that use these scores to track people?
