I am from a culture that believes in reincarnation. I remember even as a kid in early teens when I first started fantasizing about suicide my parents used to say suicide is not an answer as it guarantees that my soul would wander around like a cursed witch without having any peace. For so long, as someone who suffered (and still suffers) from some kinda fear psychosis, I bought into it. One funny incident I recall now is that one time I asked my mother then what about the widows who got pushed into funeral pyre of their dead husbands. They were asked to kill themselves because the same religion said so. My mother got furious..All their logic crumbles when you question them with facts.

I've seen similar fear-mongering even in the west as the "soul trap" dogma has taken hold in many conspiracy/truther and spiritual communities.

I remember seeing a woman being interviewed on Typical Skeptic Podcast a couple of years ago who said, "Oh, if you kill yourself, you're never getting out of here" - but of course, as usual with these people, they make assertions with no elaboration or explanation. They can't say why killing oneself would result in being trapped or accrue negative consequences.

I always thought it made more sense to have full control over one's death if one were going to avoid being reincarnated/duped by entities, as most people who die, do so unexpectedly in a moment of fear and disorientation. If I kill myself, I can plan it, place myself into a calm state of mind, accept what's coming, and make an intention to avoid whatever accosts me after the transition. Kind of impossible to do that if you get hit by a fucking bus on the way to get a coffee, oblivious to what's about to occur.

Exactly. I strongly feel I will go completely insane a few years down the line (almost 2 decades of therapy haven't worked on me), but these people would rather have me go through that than choosing a clean and humane exit with my dignity intact. By the way, thanks for your comment, I am new here and this is literally my very first thread here, so weirdly I feel good for getting one validating comment, lol.

I took the plunge yesterday to start an account in SaSu, I'm figuring out stuff re how to use this site to full extent so I can gather some resources for impending CTBing.

Indeed, I heard a lot about the reincarnation soul trap too, and since no one can know for sure what awaits on the Other Side I take this possibility into consideration. But the good thing is, even those people who are convinced of it say that those beings have to try and trick you into reincarnating, that they cannot force you against your consent, so they'll try to trick you into giving your consent.
Obviously, just refuse to consent, no matter what!
I also think much of the taboo against suicide stems from religious faith, that your life is "God's sacred gift to you," and only he may decide when your life ends.
Personally I've always despised this tyrant god of the Abrahamic religions, I want nothing to do with him anyway, so that's that.
I believe that your life is yours alone, and that it's your right to take the sovereign decision to end it. Everyone should have this right to their own life and death.

I think reincarnation is misunderstood anyways because when a personality dies it's not it that comes back but the soul basically makes a new one each time and it has nothing to do with suicide because souls can reincarnate regardless of what happened in their previous life, this ofcourse is not based on what is clearly a false religious perspective but more on reliable psychic investigation
