Hello friends,

i want to share my thoughts on the possibility of consciousness regain during carotid (the artery of your neck) compression which is probably the main reason people consider hanging as a fast and piecefull methode. But first i apoligize for my english.

Most people think that the loss of consciousness is mediated by the compression of carotid arterys, which leads to a stop in blood flow to the brain. But i think this opinion is a false friend. Some people talk of a magic sweet spot in the neck that causes loss of consciousness in seconds when pressure is applied. This spot is a location of nerve cells that resides on a specific location in the carotid artery. The function of this spot is to regulate blood pressure. When blood pressure increases, regardless if its physiological or beacuse of mechanical pressure that is for example applied with a rope during partial/full hanging or any other means of neck compression, blood pressure falls. This leads to a very fast decrease in brain function which in turn leads to dizziness, sedation, euphoria and ultimately unconsciousness. HOWEVER, this effect doesnt last very long. As blood pressure decreaes, other mechanisms of the body would normalize it very fast. This can lead to a regain of consciousness even if further pressure is applied to the carotid artery. I think its important to keep this in mind, since i found out that many of you think that they are on the edge of passing out during partial and so think this methode-setup work for them. It can be however that they just press the neurons in the sweet spot and not compressing the artery full, which is the only thing that leads to death. Also, the sensitivity of this nerve cells vary strongly between individuals, and therefore some lose consciousness fast and for others nothing happens. So when the carotid is not compressed orderly, and you have the feeling of becoming unconscious, its probably just this baroreflex and there is a good reason for the possibility of waking up again with the risks of brain damage during the time blood pressure is decreased
