losing hope

Recently reading that the average life expectancy for one with bipolar disorder is 67 years old. I am bipolar as well as a couple of other mental illnesses. I will be 65 in October. Also found an article that said that in general, mental illness can reduce a person's life span by as much as 17 years.

This life just gets harder and harder as I get older. I could be upset at the articles statements. But the way I feel since seeing these stats, is...maybe I only have to endure 2 to 5 years more, then die of natural causes. I have had ideas of methods I would use to kill myself. But have not been brave enough.

I just want some peace.

When I read the average life expectancy for human it made me depressed. At least when I have diseases and have no real choice to end my life. Then could I have a short life expectancy. No. And it actually getting longer year by year. In the future there would be technology made by bio enginees that makes life expectancy react many hundred years. And death would be done through a deadly accident or medical mistakes.

All the technological advances.....all the money donated to charity......yet life expectancy continues to decline.

Reading average life expectancies scare the hell out of me because in only 30 and I'm expected to survive this hellish prison for at least multiple decades.

The life expectancy for people with BPD is lower, because people who commit suicide young lower the average. If you don't CTB you have about the same life expectancy as mentally healthy people.

Heart disease is a silent killer too. Also smokers with a 7min deduction from life expectancy per cigarette or vape equivalent :/

It sounds like you've suffered a lot for such a long time, I hope that you eventually find the peace you search for.

Reduced life expectancy? Yes please! Preferably before the year is over.

When people quote "life expectancy", without qualifying the phrase in any way, they usually mean life expectancy at birth. That is not the same as life expectancy at some other age. For example, life expectancy [at birth] in the US is about 79.9 years for a woman. But for a 60 year old woman in the US life expectancy is about 85.8 years, i.e. she can expect to live (on average) another 25.8 years.
Also, these numbers are only averages for the whole population. There is enormous variation from one person to another.
I suggest you don't ascribe too much weight to those kinds of statistics. From the point of view of an individual, they are not much use.
