Yup, glad I found this forum at the very least so I can talk openly and not walk on eggshells and use so many euphemisms that it makes it practically impossible to speak about the issue. It's the same on a lot of platforms like YouTube with "unalive."
I don't know. Other than being able to vent and commiserate and speak freely, I'm not sure there would be any other benefit to posting on reddit. Like, I have searched for a long time, far and wide, for answers. For an "El Dorado" in the form of a comment. And I never found it.
I came close many times, such as somebody mentioning a social program but only to find out that I no longer qualify because I'm two years too old. A lot of "helpful" and therefore upvoted responses on reddit are vague and unclear; they'll respond to somebody struggling for the past decade to find a fulfilling job with something like "I work remote and make six figures and x y z." Then when the OP summons the strength to ask them for more information on how they themselves can reach that goal and turn their life around, I scroll and scroll and scroll down until I realize they never responded to OP. Just left them hanging, hopefully no pun intended.
Like what the fuck? Is this some kind of sadistic rage bait? Because I've seen it happen 100+ times. And that's not counting all the times I've seen that exact same interaction on other social media platforms. Is it some sort of weird brag? I honestly don't get it. I'd like to believe that some of them personally messaged the OP, but wouldn't it be a good deed to make the answer public? Isn't it painfully obvious that many people will find OP's thread because they have the same issue?
Look, I get that nobody is under any obligation to help people, and I'm not expecting some redditor to offer me a job alright. But responding in this way just reveals they're an asshole, because they could've just said nothing at all. Helping > not responding > being a dickwad. That's the order, yet people convince themselves with tremendous self-righteousness that it's their duty on this Earth to be a hardass, as if it's some sort of divine service and we should be thankful they're doing it for free. It's just all intellectual gymnastics to avoid the fact that they're so insecure (or such a sociopath) that they see opportunities to gloat or punch down whenever someone else is at the end of their rope and self-flagellates themself by bothering to make a reddit thread.
I had to leave reddit behind not just for the censorship but the cesspit of weird, mean people. It's as if the platform is comprised of kind people who are depressed, and awful people who are living it up at their expense. Absolutely bizarre, Twilight Zone shit. The imperfect but typically kind, empathetic, emotional sponges get wrung all day by people who sleep soundly at night.
My advice: get off of reddit. If not, private message people if you're going to mention this forum. I'll speak for myself when I say this forum doesn't need even more of the wrong-type-of-people to be aware of its existence.
