  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

A man in my parents' hometown recently CTB in a really interesting way.

He apparently tied some straps from his work truck around a pole in a parking lot, attached the other end around his neck and then pushed the gas pedal, effectively beheading himself. His head rolled onto a patch of grass while his truck and body kept driving into a ditch at the edge of the parking lot.

He did this in broad daylight. With people in the parking lot around him.

It got me thinking how cruel it is to subject other people to your method :( I know that the pain and suffering we feel is bad and sometimes CTB feels urgent, but it inflicts trauma onto anyone who might see it. They don't deserve that :(

Idk I'm rambling but I thought it was morbidly interesting as far as methods go

Yes, it was not appropriate to do it at that time.
If you need to go, do it so you do not involve others. Yes, someone will find you, but should not see or be immediately and directly impacted by your act.

The desolation and anguish that man must have been going through to end his life so brutally is unimaginable.

I could never blame anyone, even if someone blew their brains out in front of me. Surely his life was already an irreversible hell. In such a state it is impossible to think about others or anything else.

May he rest in peace.

Oh wow...I feel for him
What caused him to feel that way? We'll never know :(
I can just picture how the scene went down

Him tying the straps on the pole then walking back to his truck (he opened the window before hand.) He sits in the drivers seat and the strap is through the window he then ties it on his neck...takes a deep breath and them floors it.
His head flies out of the window along with the rope and his body (foot) is jammed on the pedal.

I feel bad for him

All these high IQ big brain methods don't make sense to me. It isn't worth the risk to me. It needs to be simple, straightforward and have a high success rate.

That's gotta be some serious anguish to cause someone to even think of something like that as an option, IMHO. Though I have to admit it is right up there with shooting yourself at a public range, I suppose. I read somewhere than men tend to choose more violent methods of self-terminating -- something about wanting to make sure they get the job done right the first time. Women tend to choose less violent methods -- apparently we are concerned with traumatizing others. I wish I could remember where I read it -- I'd give the link. But that was years ago and I've slept since then.

That's quite extreme. I guess this is an example that mental illness can really affect the way people execute decisions.
Not to take away from the suffering they experienced.

I remember reading about that method on alt.holiday a long time ago. Some of their methods were in partial jest and I didn't know if this was one someone would actually go through with. I imagine he may have been alive a few seconds after. He was clearly determined but damn that's gruesome.

i've had daydreams about crazy violent suicide methods like this. i'd never go through with any of them, but i usually have those thoughts when i want to feel seen by someone and for someone to experience a fraction of the pain that's making me feel suicidal. i think there's always going to be a tipping point for some people. there's probably a sort of thrill that comes from traumatizing the people around you and not needing to deal with any of the repercussions. in some ways, i think that suicide is the closest thing people get to committing a crime.

Wow. How did he think of that method.

I don't like it when people use suicide methods which traumatise other people. They develop PTSD which affects them their whole life. I understand the desperation to leave this place, but at least try to do so in a way which doesn't negatively impact on others.

Today I read on the news about a 41 year old woman in my country who suicided. It made me feel very sad, and I kept thinking about her today.

I just mean doing it in the daytime out in the open is so risky. You can get saved if it doesn't go right. The rope can throttle you, crush your throat, many things can happen. The vehicle might not accelerate the way you want it to, or it might turn. The more moving parts there are to such a thing, more things can go wrong.

Judicial hangings have to be measured down to the inch of rope because a little too long can decapitate cleanly. The head is not that securely attached as one might think

I went out to the parking lot he did it in just to try to visualize it. It made me sad. You can see where his truck went into the ditch because it left a visible imprint in the tall grass and plants that are there. I feel so bad for him.

I also checked the comments on the news article and his nephew commented that he had an inoperable brain tumor. I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been.

I've seen enough reports of this car decapitation method that I'm starting to suspect it should be considered as a practical alternative, which is amusing considering it seems like something out of a Wile E. Coyote skit

If assisted suicide was legal and available to him, he wouldn't have to resort to such a violent method.

Yeah.. probably why my friend never asked me for help.
sometimes CTB feels urgent
Yeah.. in a way though, his reasoning may have been that this method hardly allows SI to kick in, especially if that determination born from agony made him not think twice.
His head rolled onto a patch of grass
This kind of reminded me of a fact about guillotines but apparantly beheadment isn't instant death but rather you still get around 5-6 seconds of conciousness before it all goes fully dark.
If their heads fell the right way right in the basket, then apparently they'd have seen the bloody stump where their necks used to be.
But also it's just something I read, it doesn't means it's true... at least I hope not, for the sake of all of the people having experienced it.
They don't deserve that :(
I know... agreed.
