If you're not on Twitter, that's probably a good thing. Unfortunately I am and over the past couple days I saw two public figures share desires or attempts at suicide. Both are white males who have done problematic things in the past. Max G of Braindump made racist drawings in his past and went public with a desire to go to Switzerland to receive physician-assisted suicide to relieve a chronic illness. The other is Perez Hilton, who was one of the earliest celebrity bloggers bloggers and from my understanding was exploitative and abusive towards female celebrities (though my knowledge on this is vague). He recently live-streamed himself on TikTok cutting his wrists and while I haven't seen the video, it's apparently very bloody, though he did survive and was taken to the hospital. A lot of the tweets I saw, especially regarding Hilton, who actively cheering on the suicide because they have a past involving the harassment of minorities. One tweet with something like 70k likes said something to the effect of "I love it when good things happen to bad men".

All this has got me wondering at what point it is generally ok to encourage suicide, which is something I've been wondering about for a while now. I've been suicidal since I was young and no one besides myself has ever encouraged me to do it. Yet as I've grown older I've never gotten any happier and have hurt more people along the way. Like the two people I mentioned earlier, I too am a white male. While I haven't done or said anything racist or abusive intentionally, I still exist as an oppressive class. This in conjunction with the above is making me think that it would be morally good for people like myself to commit suicide.

And before anyone says "I don't think anyone should kill themselves", consider that Hitler killed himself, and I think we can all agree that his death was a good thing. Obviously there is a drastic difference between Hitler and myself, but I don't think someone has to be literally Hitler to be deserving of death. I'm curious where you guys draw the line.

Why are you operating on the premise that death is necessarily a harm and a punishment? I don't agree that Hitler's death was a good thing. It robbed us of justice.

Albeit knowing that white males Are an oppressive class by default, given all the perks they are given in society due to our current world state, I wouldn't say that encouraging someone into suicide in ANY case is correct
One can have done horrible mistakes in the past and been racist / sexist etcetera and yet they can still be struggling now and be ill and mentally unwell, also people can truly change their ways from things done before, many people have.. simply now it's easier to point out since the mistakes are permanently etched into the internet
Whether those men changed or not is irrelevant, I think watching someone commit suicide on stream and cheering about it or turning it into a joke is sad and messed up

i honestly just dont listen to people on twitter or to people who spend all their time on twitter. i was listening to someone i know once about how they thought people who did xyz deserved to be tested on like animals. i had someone do that thing to me and i honestly just wished they got the right kind of help and wasn't released from prison so soon. theres alot of people these days with social media induced moral scruplosity, whether it be one way or the other that evolves into backwards violence.

thinking about it too much in the lens of "what if i'm like that" will lead you into a spiral where you are conflating other peoples lives and actions with yourself by just sharing a demographic out of fear and doubt of you being a bad person. how you will be perceived is a huge uncertainty but as long as you try to understand and respect others then you are doing better than many people. even in the worst case of you doing those actions in the past, its a net positive to do better actions rather than die on live stream.

if you get these kinds of thoughts a lot, i would consider limiting algorithms in your life because we are not really meant to hear every single person's anonymous thoughts or engagement farming stuff. alot of stuff exists in grey but what gets people moving is black and white. whatever those guys did is not good but its pretty dumb to think a public bloody breakdown is a good thing opposed to just not being online or developing compassion for others.

Nobody deserves suicide, it's a choice and it should never be encouraged to anyone. As someone who has seen a good amount of the Hilton livestream, I think whatever his past was made up of STILL doesn't justify the peanut gallery reaction to the bloody display...
We have no control over ethnicities or level of privilege we were born into. Dwelling whether or not you "deserve" any form of harm just based off of identity is an easy way to more self hatred.
Twitter is already a known dump of people wanting attention even if it's negative, it's better to ignore it if possible.

Really good point actually. Death isn't necessarily a punishment. Though maybe these individuals surviving is the punishment they deserve.

This is precisely why virtue signaling/moral posturing is just a subtle exposure of someone's disingenuous true nature. It's another performance people do to play their game in society, it's just the personality displayed over rotten hypocrisy.

Those people are deluded and vindictive. For all the empathy those types typically whine is missing from the world, they don't have it.
