It's control via fear. Christians do it with threats of hell. Once you realize it's all fiction, the fear drops away. I am a biological organism. There is no "me" that continues after my death. But if you look at it a different way he makes a good point. Anyone hoping that their justice or peace will come after death needs to know that they should seek those things while alive, to make the effort now. But the reason is different...it's not so we'll be "better" after death, it's so life will be better now.

I don't subscribe to the idea of an eternal soul. I think all of our personality and choices emerge from brain structure which is always changing and which ultimately decomposes with the rest of us after death. This is the strongest theory so far, that's my impression at least.
