I feel like the benefit to partial hanging is that if you back out it really doesn't do substantial damage to your body, so it's not a big deal to back out or change your mind, you can just try again later if you need to. It's obviously still very dangerous, since if you back out you could still pass out when you stand up and die anyway. What part of it do you find scary?
I just do low commitment practice when I have time alone, seeing how close I can get to passing out, it feels good. There's always the chance that I pass out in the process and die accidentally, which I see as a benefit since it's easier than having to make the deliberate decision to die. This also helps remove the fear and inhibition involved, and helps me be less scared of dying, since I know that even if it's not necessarily a suicide attempt, there's still a substantial chance that I die in the process.
