  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Maybe a dumb question, but does anyone know of some best practices to take when booking a hotel room for CTB to ensure no-one knows you are booking it for that purpose? Obviously not mentioning it to anyone, but is using TOR or something necessary?

People book hotels all the time, you don't have to take any insane precautions if you're not already being watched. You can also just walk up to the reception of 'most' hotels and ask if they have a room available.

I don't think there is any way for a hotel to know why you are there. The hotel I am at asked why I was staying but they just wanted to know if it was for business or pleasure. You can just tell them whatever you want. Hotels hardly ever ask though.

If you ask for a room on the 30th floor with windows that open, tell them it's for photographing the the view with no glass distortion. Otherwise, just act normal. They rent rooms to people all day long.

I have a poor opinion of poisoning oneself, due to the time it takes, the potential pain, and the possibility of failing or being 'rescued' in much worse shape. But your choice. Put out the do not disturb sign to give yourself an extra day or so.

One small but important piece of advice- always have the deadbolt lock in use when you are in the room, so that if the hotel accidentally checks someone else into the same room you are in (this happens rarely but it does happen) then the other person will be stopped by the deadbolt and they won't go into the room. I have worked in hotels a lot, and what can happen is a new desk clerk might make a mistake and not check someone in all the way in the computer and then they can check another guest into the same room. This is rare, maybe a one in a thousand chance, but it does happen, so you always want to have the deadbolt on.

I swear everyone who posts questions about this must have never booked or even stayed in a hotel

Why in gods name would you use tor to book a hotel?
When you check into a hotel you provide them with ID, a credit card or sometimes cash deposit , you get the room key and go.

You don't have to do anything special.

Best way is to book it online . Some hotels in third world countries (I'm looking at you USA) enquire about the reason for stay for walk in bookings because the country is filled with drug addicts due to the decadent culture. There's a drug addict subculture where groups of druggies will try to save cash for a night in a hotel where they can all shoot up undisturbed

I was recently told by a hotel employee they generally don't allow anyone who lives within 50 miles of the hotel to stay there but of course that most likely on applies to walk in booking
