Discussion Protecting Sources and Protecting SS

The first 'goodbye' thread I read has really stuck with me. (Probably has for a lot of people.) Anyway, unfortunately I don't recall his name but he was so calm and nice. He was using N and he dispensed the 'elixa' into a glass and covered before disposing of the bottles and packaging (probably separately) in bins in the street.

I just wondered whether people here have made plans to try and protect the source- especially with regards to SN. I mean- I guess if the authorities were REALLY that interested, it wouldn't be hard for them to follow a money trail. Still, I was just wondering if people had plans to try and git rid of the packaging beforehand- of course- the problem I see with this is not wanting to expose the mixture to the air that long.

I know it's going to be obvious that the death was through SN poisoning- I'd want to warn them what was in the other glasses for a start. Plus- obviously it's a legal substance being sold in good faith- still- I can see the pressure is likely to grow more and more on the few places where it is still available.

The other one is protecting this amazing place. I have seen members saying they will delete their accounts and wipe their devices before going- to erase all traces. Still, if I ever have the courage to do it, I would dearly love to start a goodbye thread and possibly stay on for as long as possible. I think I'd feel a little less lonely and afraid that way. I guess I could set my phone to lock- still- I'm sure they can override that if they care to. I hate the thought of the damn authorities having more fuel to the fire as it were to try and further restrict people like us. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I went over something similar in my head last night, trying to figure out what to erase on phones and pc. Ultimately I thought about submerging them in water but I don't want to deal with trying to replace them should I fail.

I'm still trying to figure it out. I have my doubts about how far authorities would go to investigate my death. If homicide can be ruled out, 99% chance they're not digging any further. Especially where I live. They legitimately do not care.

I guess I could do a factory reset on my phone before I go. I'm assuming that would clear everything. Because I do wanna protect this place, absolutely.

I have thought of that. It is noxious to think that my SN death and participation on SS (if discovered) would probably be used as fuel for the SN and SS hysteria. The researchers and experts paint us as vulnerable and mentally fragile individuals who were manipulated into drinking this salty potion and who couldn't possibly have had sound reasons for doing what we did. I try to console myself the same way any postmortem concern pops up with the knowledge that it won't matter. Anyways, my source has already implemented restrictions and it is doubtful they'll be lifted. So in that sense I don't have to fear making a source inaccessible to future people.

I only use one device and I'll be physically destroying it before it can be found. I'll also be switching bank accounts and ensuring the old one is closed for some time to make the trail harder. Obviously I'll be burning any information regarding any sources as not to implicate them.

It only takes 1 bored journalist to blow everything out of proportion and ruin it for everyone. I'm not going to be the one who leaves that trail behind for them to follow.

This is such an important point! Anytime that any other death is used for some sort of moral argument, political agenda, etc. there's always backlash, but with suicide, using an individuals death to further pro life and suicide prevention agendas is par for the course. Very frustrating that we have to be so concerned about protecting and hiding sources and supports when the decision is our own!

If you use a desktop or laptop to access SS, Tor browser could be good for this, if you don't want your login cookie and history to be saved. You could install it on whatever OS you're currently using, or you could use it from an installation of Tails on a USB stick.
If you're worried about people finding SS open after you CTB, you could set your computer to shut down after a certain amount of time has elapsed.
Also, if you're not using Tails, it might be a good idea to consider some form of full-disk encryption, so that the data on the drive can't be accessed without your pasphrase.
