  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

A little tired

Hi all,

I'm new here and have attempted and failed to CTB quite a few times recently. I'm determined my next try will be successful.

I've written notes and have thought about posting a goodbye post on my Instagram because I have a fair few followers on the internet and want to say goodbye to them but I've also wondered whether it's a terrible idea.

I'm quite active on social media and so it feels natural to post something ahead of leaving, even if it's cryptic.

I was wondering if anyone thought posting a goodbye note on Instagram is inherently a bad idea?

If your cbt method won't instantly kill you then you risk having someone see it and call police to save you

Personally, I wouldn't risk having my bus ride halted by someone calling the police.
If you're able to send it from a location different from the ctb location and then quickly get far away with no electronic devices then perhaps.
Or if your method is instant... Like with a firearm.

I would not do it personally, as I would not do anything to risk the attempt being stopped and it failing.

Another thing I suppose would be good to think about is if it will affect your followers negatively.
Maybe people who would've otherwise lived out their lives thinking you just left Instagram might now feel upset.

I understand wanting to say goodbye and it's up to you.

Coming from someone who sent out some goodbye messages before I was found (and "saved") I cannot emphasize enough how much risk there is in posting something like that. Maybe leave a post with someone that could post it after you've gone? I'm unsure, there's a lot of risk. I'd recommend against it honestly.

that is very true - I'd hope to not be found but I guess I'm increasing the risk

If you have their emails you could send them a scheduled one to guarantee you enough time

I think it might depend on the social media site. I did the same thing with reddit, but it wasn't like anybody could find my actual location, so nothing happened, and I my suicide attempt didn't work. I don't know about sites like Instagram, all I could say is there is a risk of being found with posting goodbyes on social media.

My only advice is using a third party app/website to schedule the post. I'll be doing this for myself as well.

To reiterate what others have said - I texted a few friends right before I tried to kill myself a few years ago. I don't think I would have succeeded even if they hadn't intervened because I chose an ineffective method. But if I hadn't sent those texts, I would have spared myself a lot of trouble and institutionalisation when I woke up.

As others have said, you want to be careful with this, in case someone interferes with your attempt. I've got a comment prepared for a Youtube video, but I doubt I will post it. I really want to leave a final message on Facebook for my crush, however.
