Actually, the term populist is on English way more positive connotated than in German. And this might say something about US politics in comparison to German politics. Lol. I recently watched a German politics lecture where the lecturer argumented against calling Bernie Sanders a populist.User.
For what it's worth, he isn't a populist, not at all. He might sometimes say some populist things, but he doesn't govern as a populist. If he did, he would (literally) be more popular than he is. But he doesn't, so he isn't.
