Poll: What is the ratio of mostly content/mostly unhappy people around you?

It would be interesting to know how our common situation (very unhappy, I assume) fits within the context of society. Are we really a small minority, or maybe our situation is much more common that we tend to believe? I know our ratio is probably a little bit skewed (since people around us, especially relatives, are much more likely to be unhappy too), but I think it's worth it to know it anyway.

Let me start. The ratio of mostly content/mostly unhappy people around me is: 20/80.

Maybe 80-90% mostly happy /10-20% mostly unhappy. But it's hard to know, because many people wouldn't show it that they don't feel good, unless you're very close to them

I doubt that happiness even exists. It's a delusion. Those who appear to be content and satisfied with their lives are likely just pretending. As humans we keep so much of our suffering to ourselves, and of course suicide is such a stigmatised topic that cannot really be discussed openly.

Really? This surprised me a lot... maybe we're truly a minority. Or maybe you only believe they are happy, while in fact they are not?

Even tho my gf says she thinks she has depression, she's very keen on her hobbies like talking to friends and gaming, so I peg her as mostly happy

Define happy? People can pretend to be happy. It isn't possible to be happy all the time because tragic shit happens in life. However, I have had periods of contentment and joy. It is usually rather fleeting though. Even some of the best comics are actually really depressed people... inside. Having said that I don't begrudge anyone's happiness, so long as they aren't maliciously happy at other people's expense, that is. Happiness is like a rollercoaster, when you are up, you are on top of the world, and when you are down it can be an absolute nightmare.

Then I believe she should probably fall into category "mostly unhappy". Yes, compared to us, she might be the happiest person ever. But generally speaking, I'd say she is not happy.

It's tough to tell. Superficially, I would say most are happy/content. However, I put on the same happy/content face when I'm with them, so who knows? They may be on this site as well.

i work good service so my job is mostly staffed by high school and college kids, so id say probably a ratio of 60% unhappy to one degree or another and 40% happy, mostly people outside of my job. i know at least four coworkers who are openly suicidal
