  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I've read all over the internet that police will keep suicide notes for investigation, until they can rule it as a suicide. I've read in some cases they keep it for longer or only give the family a copy (which they wait a while to do). So I have a couple questions:

1. If I leave two copies of the note, will they keep both? Seems like they really only need one.

2. Along with my note I'm going to leave one to my partner and one to my twin sister. I'm going to leave them in envelopes with their name on them. Will they take those too? Should I put them somewhere else in the house where my family will find them, so the police don't think it's suicide notes?

Yes, they will keep both. Yes, they will take everything.

My opinion, put them all online and back them up on something like archive.org. That way, there's a much smaller window of risk when putting it out there for it to be taken down. I find physical notes to be very inconvenient for those same reasons along with having no real backup if either copy is lost in some fashion.

I suggest delayed emails as suicide notes. Becareful though, some websites like gmail has algorithm to detect suicide emails

That's messed up if to not even return it though like atleast give the family or friends a little closure if they haven't read it.

What is the protocol for them contacting next of kin? For example if I put, let's say, 6 contacts on my list, will they (police) only contact the first one?

Wow that's insane that Gmail does that. I had no idea. I'm so curious what their flags are

Iiuc it really differs by police departments. I've heard of only contacting one, but I've also heard of police contacting everyone listed

Post your notes by mail before you do it, that way it will get to where it needs to go and the first responders can't steal it

You can also send them through email at a future date.

my plan is to just make a discord channel on a personal server with all of my last thoughts to anyone who cares, and basically distribute the login credentials of my account to all the people in my life with nothing else said, in the hopes they will see my final words and wishes, and if they want, they can distribute messages i might have left to people i've known over the years through my account, or not.. really up to them... idk, something like this might have a lot of holes, but could be an okay idea for some..
i think the other thing is as many have suggested, sending an email that's made to go out in the future.. you can also save it as a document on your computer, and just kind of post it multiple places, so it's out there, so i guess it depends how determined you are to get people to see this stuff..

Honestly, I did the same thing but the people who care would find it too morbid to log into your account if you're dead and you obviously don't want people who don't care digging through your stuff. Easy fix though: instead of sharing login credentials, share invite link and make server read-only

And yet another reason I really don't like the police. I guess mailing letter is the best bet. I could drive to the post office first, then to my destination

I have notes(note pad not physical) and some emails. Schedule to send or just save in a folder.
Give pw to 1 person before I go. That's it.
with clear instructions not to tell the piggys about it. In the note.
Since it is possible for them to get warrants for digital property as well. If it relates.

I understand the need of evidence to rule cause of death. " paper work "

But also remember for insurance company's. Whatever the police get they can confirm the cause of death. (via note / method etc )
And I'm not 100% sure but I believe most do not pay out when you ctb.
Depending on the policy
Eg 3 - 6 months no pay
Over 2 years - certain %

i guess you would need to experiment with emails to see if they get flagged or not? its so sad we have to think about this

The best way is to post the note via regular mail right before CTB but specify in the note "do not give it to the pigs."

The con is that if you fail, you'll have to explain yourself to the people you sent your note to and shit could hit the fan.

I don't recommend delayed email, unless said delayed email has nothing more but a url link that points to the note written somewhere else. I guess you could probably use a cloud service (not google) that keeps your notes and use the delayed email to link to it; but don't forget to setup privacy parameter that allows only people who have the link to have access to it. You can also do that with multiple notes each adressed to different people on the same cloud account but be very careful about who has access to what; you probably don't want your sister having access to a note adressed to your girlfriend for example.
