Basically everyone I know is convinced there is nothing after death, that once the brain dies the consciousness only disappear. For some reason, this belief does not make them desperate.

If the whole sum of one's experiences disappear with death, why stay alive if one is living in pain? What's the use of getting better? Just why?
There is no way I survive through next month... :aw:

I see no point in living regardless of what happens after death

Life purpose is very subjective matter. I think if I have ton of power and resources, I would dedicate my life to a life of service. Simply trying to make the world a better place in order to add some kind of "meaning" to my existence.

Your life's purpose is whatever you decide it to be. There is no inherent meaning to life but there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. If you can spend your life enjoying the people and things around you, then great! That is purpose enough. Unfortunately that's not possible for a lot of people. The suffering and the grind of existence outweighs the joys for many of us.

The point of life to those that can bear it is to adding meaning to their life and others, while stopping suffering, either directly or indirectly. If you can't do then then you know where the nearest rope is. But until then you should try everything in your power to find things that will get you better. What have you tried to use to get better?

Once we die we are no longer conscious. Hmm. I really do wish my mind could settle on such simple conclusions. Who do I know that knows that? My mind is a strange loop. When I peer into the void called death I only see my thoughts traveling through some crazy fucking rabbit holes. It's hard to explain. Shit involving Schrödinger's cat and multiverses. I don't know. Maybe I'm overcomplicating it? I dont' think I am. I wouldn't be the first to have these thoughts. Somehow, I have to be aware of this random ass Buddhist priest who talked about there being "three thousand realms in a single moment of life." That was almost 1000 years ago. He couldn't possibly know something like that. Three thousand realms? Why would he say that? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? I don't know. It's honestly robbed me of what I once thought could be a peaceful solution. Fortunately, thanks to Google, I'm at least glad to know I'm not the only crazy person alive to entertain these crazy thoughts.

My philosophy on life is that life has no objective meaning. We as humans assign subjective and artificial meaning and value to life as we see it. Hence, people who invented 'religion' was made to create a subjective meaning in life to make life worth living (according to their pov). So in short, there is no real meaning to life, only what we assign to it.

Sorry for the late answer. I've been hospitalized twice and it didn't really help. I will try therapy before ending it, maybe travelling and see new horizons, but I don't have much faith that I'll get better. Thanks for you comment.

I don't feel there is any great meaning in life. We're born, we live, and then we die. We are just aware of the fact that we are alive, unlike animals, and must invent some great meaning/purpose for why we are here.

Couldn't agree more. It's too much for many humans to accept we really are no better or important than animals in the grand scheme.

@WeekofWonder to experience physicality and advance our spiritual growth much much faster through pain and suffering (maybe because the other side doesn't have negative side of things?)

Exactly how I feel, I never wanted to have a wife and kids, as a child we just lived in the moment and had fun doing anything hell even playing with sticks using our imagination was fun and climbing trees now I can´t enjoy anything.

I'd rather be an animal and not have to deal with these complex human issues and emotions

I think there really isn't much point. My mother argues with me that this is because I'm depressed. I don't know, I'm 35, I've seen the world for what it is: if you look back at the horrors humans have inflicted on each other through the centuries and as we type the atrocites being committed that alone is enough to see life as an abomination. But on a much smaller scale what about the general irritances and petty shit we go through? The debts, the small talk, health issues, waiting for things, being hungry, seeing the inequalities...Ifucked up my brian through years of alcohol and benzo abuse and that's why I'm here. I'm over the suffering. I don't want to pass on that suffering but I'm also not going to be a moral hostage for conceivably 40 more years, it's been going on waaaaay too long and I've had enough.

I dont believe in humanity and its purpose if any is not interesting to me anymore, but concerning afterlife there is a whole thread , on top of the site, dedicated to this topic. It all has to do with personal beliefs and I think people should be sensible and tolerant when discussing this topic. I myself dont believe energy can be destroyed only transmuted

Didn't Einstein prove that energy can't be destroyed/just transferred In the E=mc2 equation

Perhaps there is a general sense for humanity as a biological species - this is evolution. But for individuals there is no point in living, we are simply a material for nature. Humans are no different from dogs or tomatoes.
