It would be awesome if people didn't have such tunnel vision about their pet issues, then again one of my pet issues is that civilization run by empire churns out bubble people as a matter of course. It shouldn't amaze me that activists can be so blind to the connections between climate change and endless war, between arms manufacturers and mainstream media, between everything and everything else.
Of course for the sake of getting shit done you need to pick your targets and focus, but very often people become blinkered. And when they do think of the connections between all things it's in some mystical bullshit sense. Let me clear that up: all issues are connected because they unfold and dig in on a finite planet. It's a big place, but not so big that events on it are disconnected.
Let's get even simpler. On this planet people talk to each other. I don't know if you've heard of the printing press, radio, TV and the online world, but there's no shortage of communing going on if you care to look. If you watch, listen or read it's all there. If you don't you are surrounded by people who do. If you aren't surrounded by people who do it's because you are in one of those backward places where more information may not even help. Some places are fucked up beyond belief, but that's precisely why we shouldn't give up on telling each other stories about building a better world.
I'm stepped back from activism so I could get my homestead projects off the ground. That's fine, I value the time to get a perspective you can't get when you're constantly on as an activist. But you know what my dream is really? That I never have to return to activism. That people get organized just because it's time. It really is time, you know.
Climate change is a real thing and should be causing people to wake up and get motivated. I hate it when people say things things like "wake up" and use words like "sheeple". It's so smug and frankly I too am an arrogant prick who thinks that maybe assholes like me shouldn't be necessary anymore. Normal, well balanced people should be stepping forward to tackle climate change, which will require no less than rebuilding the world. Practical people, not drama queens is what I'm saying.
Because I just want to do technical work that solves problems, man.
