i have practised passing out multiple times with partial hanging now, and it has always taken me around 30+ seconds to start seeing "stars", my face swelling up and getting red in the process (feeling like its gonna explode)... what am i doing wrong? i have read about people passing out in 15-20 seconds here...
any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sound like you blocking your jugular instead of the carotid maybe.

Good question. Carotid is deeper and different spot. I don't know I got mine when I did. I tried over and over until one time it worked after changing position and materials..this was a partial.
I could never get a ratchet strap to work. It did like you said
how long did it take you to pass out?

It was less than a minute when I hit the right spot. Before then I wasn't going to pass out for a while and was not feeling good from pressure. I don't know how long was out for before body struggled it's way free. Maybe not too long. Ears rang and was in stupor and shocked, like a time warp.

What is your set up like? What position are you using / rope placement?
rope tied to shower cabin pole with snuggle hitch knot, slipknot around my neck with the knot either on left, right side or behind

how i can block carotid instead of jugular?

Are you leaning into it or lowering yourself down? And I've read the best placement for the knot is at the back of your neck.

I don't know the 'right' way, but I can tell you what I did.

First, don't experiment with partial hanging, or anything where the rope is fixed unless you're sure you want to die! Instead, hold the other end of the rope in your hand, so when you pass out, you automatically let go.

The mistake I made was that I didn't 'commit' to it, didn't lean into the noose hard enough. I tried lowering a little bit until I feel something, I tried laying on the bed and pull it with my hands etc. It doesn't work like that.

When I eventually succeeded to pass out was when I decided 'ok, now I'll lower myself into it with all my weight, no matter what'. Technically it was still not all my weight, but I was pretty determined. And it works. I pass out like in 5-10 seconds.

I throw the rope over something above me (actually it's a belt, not a rope), hold the other end in my hand. Then, I lower myself by bending my knee. Again, the key for me was to not try to figure out how much force causes me to pass out. But to put my all weight on it as much as I can. Instant success.

One last advice: Make sure you don't have any sharp objects around you, e.g. sharp table corners etc, because you'll lose muscle tone and may bump into it.

Did you lean forward at all or just lower straight down?

i tried leaning forward and lowering down separately. maybe i have to try a combination of both?
I'm questioning that too. What position are you in when trying?

Just lowering myself vertically. Not leaning forward.

I think, most people overcomplicate it. The mistake I made was that I did not apply enough pressure. It's easy to think the pressure is enough because you already feel it's uncomfortable, you feel the rope pressing against your neck, and you think that means there must be enough pressure. It's not enough. You feel dizzy, because there is some pressure, but you don't pass out, and you draw the conclusion there is something wrong with your technique. While in reality there is just not enough pressure, that's all.

When I say rope, it's a belt in my case. I tried it with a belt, which is more comfortable than a rope, keep this in mind. I have not tried it with a rope, but if I did, I would pad it with something. Or use a thick enough rope, so it's not so uncomfortable.

I tried to do a partial hanging a little bit ago. Tied a couple ligatures to a very solid spot that's about 2 feet above my head. Tried standing, kneeling, sitting and laying down. I originally placed the noose a little below my Adam's apple but then placed it at the top of my neck because the bottom of it is so sore. I could not block my cartoid arteries and cause myself to pass out. I would hold a position for up to a few minutes but had trouble breathing. If I started to "pass out" I would panic and pull the noose off. I never came close to losing consciousness. I think I have to figure out another method but besides my eyes being totally red from my previous attempt now I have ligature marks on my neck which look really bad. I don't think I could feel any more disappointed in myself. My family will attempt to force me to goto the hospital and I will wish I wasn't such a coward about finishing it. I tried lowering vertally and diagonal in relation to where it was mounted. I even used a thin rope 5/32 and really thought this would work. I'm so fucked I can't even put it in words. I should have done a full hanging and will go get some thicker rope for that. Not being able to backout is good although I definitely can imagine exactly why it would be painful. Or I should be wiling to throw myself off a ledge or something that will guarantee my death. I can't believe that I'm still alive this is such a nightmare.
