it's not another afterlife thread, promise
whatever you believe about the im/possibility of life after death, it's still super cool to contemplate.
no afterlife? no worries. you've just obtained unobtainable knowledge, something beyond the brain's capacity to understand. complete dissolution, a kind of state no one has ever (fully?) entered. what's more enticing and mysterious?
same goes for any variety of afterlife. if you're dead and some kind of essence endures, then you're practically a superior being, like a wizard or a miniature divinity. you see things no one else can, and have experiences no one can ever experience (until it's their time to go).
I keep thinking about dead friends and relatives and how they went through that supreme change. one second they're bags of flesh and bone with thought and emotion, and the next they've (their consciousness has, or soul, or whatever) changed irreparably, incomparably. what, if anything, do they know now? how is it to not exist, or to be radically unlike yourself?
