  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Hi,

I recently had someone ask to be partners in SN here.

I was wondering:
- What is the 'advantage' of having a partner in this? Does it make it more or less stressful? I can see that it would be less lonely but doesn't it also make another person who can call an ambulance... and you'll both be taking SN and dying so it may not even help w/reliability.

Thanks.

There's always a chance of someone backing out. Even if someone is really determined to go, SI can be hard to overcome, especially right before you CTB.

In the past, there's also been incidents where people use the partners thread to seek out others to harm; either emotionally or physically. I feel SS is pretty safe, but you always have to keep in mind this is a public forum and sometimes people join just to mess with people who are already emotionally fragile.

There have definitely been successful partnerships on here, but I guess it's trial and error sometimes. Just be safe.

I'll tell you another downside. Forget the backing out part. If you both attempt ctb and only one actually is successful, there is a great likelihood that LE will be able to charge the surviving one with some trumped-up charge of, at least, manslaughter or something like that, and prosecutors will pursure it and likely win. I'm speaking from a US perspective. What they will/can do in other countries, I have no idea. Remember Conrad and Michelle? They nailed her just for sending texts "encouraging" Conrad to ctb, even though he was already depressed and attempted ctb long before he met her. The public always wants someone to blame.

I'll never understand treating suicidal people like criminals.

https://news.stv.tv/west-central/man-accused-of-offering-to-help-woman-take-her-own-life - 1 confirmed case of a creep seeking out SS users to harm. Imo assuming this site is safe is incredibly naïve, this site is a GOLDMINE for any nefarious individual because there is a consistent stream of desperate and lonely people with a deathwish.

I was here when it happened. If I didn't feel I was safe here, then there's no way I'd be a member. That's why I mentioned you have to keep in mind that not everyone is here for good reasons and you have to be careful who you talk to.

Whoever pulls out or survives is getting prison time. I would meet up with this person beforehand to gauge their true intentions.

Well, it won't really be about treating the survivor like a criminal for their suicide attempt, since they decriminalized suicide. It will be for the assisting part in "helping" the successful one, which is still illegal. And I agree with you about treating people with despair and hopelessness like criminals. That is what is criminal IMO.

Thanks everyone for your input.
Sounds like better to do alone.

It is easier to criminalize what you cannot understand or do not want to deal with. We do it all the time.
