Anyone with martial arts experience know why in BJJ or Judo you are taught that chokes reliably cause unconsciousness in 6-10 seconds while many people in here are struggling to pass out by partial hanging? In my view, the rope is essentially a self applied lapel choke, yet it often fails.

Yeah, I practised BJJ for a while. A rear naked choke is very effective and will put anybody out within 15 seconds. I'm not sure why you're trying to compare this to a rope, though, because the mechanism is very different.

Btw if somebody just wants to come and choke me in my sleep, you're more than welcome. /s (Sorry mods, this is a JOKE, just for the sake of it)

Perhaps the RNC is not the best comparison because you get the very convenient v shape choke, but what about lapel chokes? Some feel quite similar to the pressure applied by a rope.

Agreed, the lapel chokes do tend to work that way because the area is a lot less. It hurts a lot more and there's a lot more friction on the skin involved. Good point.
