• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Title says it basically, I went out at work (I work in an office) for some fresh air and took my phone out to look at the site, I didn't realise my phone was still connected to the work WiFi through my ID, I went on the site and viewed a few threads before realising. How f'd am I? If they flag up the site (which has suicide clearly in it) or even just spot it then I may be stuck with a write up or a wellness check or idek what and I'm super stressed about it

Do you mean it's just in the cache?
I searched it on their Internet and opened new threads, lose multiple ss pages on their Internet, and IT monitors the WiFi because it's a large company

Fully depends on how strict they are at monitoring internet usage.. If its a large company it might go under the radar

Obviously it's not blocked, if it isn't flagged somehow then I doubt their IT dept is going to manually check every website.

My gut feeling is they'd have blocked it if it's an issue to them.

I take it you weren't abiding by the golden rule, always use a VPN! Protonmail VPN is a good free one and connects really quickly.

If i understand it correctly, a VPN pretty much hides your location/ identity from everyone outside the network you used.
But it if someone has direct access to the rooter you were connected with when you browsed this site, it doesn't matter that you used a VPN.

But tbh i heavily doubt there are people in your company monitoring the internet traffic that closely.
You didn't do anything illegal and thats the only thing your company would care about.

I mean, I watched porn on my highschool computer, never heard a damn thing about it even after having my class hijacked by another teacher to warn us of the repercussions.

I can't tell you whether or not you're fucked, but I doubt it. I sometimes wonder if people lie about their stuff being monitored to scare employees into doing work.

i'm a sysadmin, unless the company has dedicated monitoring software, they'd probably only notice the DNS queries on their firewall... if they look at it at all.
unless your phone's hostname is something obvious like "John's iPhone", it's likely they won't be able to figure out who that phone belongs to either.

now i obviously have no idea how your IT department set everything up; they could've made you sign in with your user to use the wlan or whatever...
overall, i wouldn't worry about it, if questions are asked, you can easily talk your way out, make some stuff up.

as to using a VPN, i'd generally advise using cellular data (if you'd like to, with the VPN connected) over being on the company network at all.

It depends, its likely that nothing will happen. If you get questioned just say, that you clicked on it by accident
