I believe that if you've gone beyond the modern obsession with productivity and pursuing pointless goals then you have basically reached enlightenment.

Our purpose is fulfilled every time we look in the mirror and recognize that we exist. Animals don't have lofty goals and they don't care to. They just live.

I don't know if I've posted this story before but I've told it many times in real life and I'll tell it again here:

One night I was at a bar. There was a guy there who had just retired. The next day I went to the bar and the patrons told me he had died the previous night of a heart attack.

He was an American guy so he probably did the lifescript and believed everything corporate America told about retirement and how that's some of positive end goal. All that work and then only 1 day after

They believe they'll spend their golden years living it up and traveling lol. Chances are their health will be shit and the average person is bad with money, which means no grand adventures but the one you take from the couch to the bathroom.

On the flip side i knew some people who were silent generation who retired and had many quality years if not decades. They had Fishing trips and working in the garden and lots of time with the grandchildren

I've reached that state of enlightenment long ago and still want to die. Also, animals still have goals. Some pertain to survival and others just because. Neither one of your statements is accurate I'm afraid. Sorry.

I've noticed a pattern in my lifetime that the older generation they were the generally more positive the retirement was

The silent and greatest generation had wonderful retirements in my life. The boomers who retired had it much worse. Just my anecdotal

Well it's been true for me, and I am the barometer to measure things by.

What a shockingly arrogant and self centered statement. The barometer by which things are accurately measured are data and statistics not personal anecdotes. Personal truths are nonsense only scientifically accurate truth is reliably viable.

Science has become a false god. Just look at this Covid farce to see the collapse of the edifice of science. Carl Sagan would be ashamed.

No scientifically literate person treats science as some form of deity. Only illiterates who have a warped understanding of science would make a statement like yours. False god? That implies that a true god could conceivably exist and since there's no evidence for one your statement rings false. Covid a farce? Don't tell me you're one of those anti-vaxxer freaks who don't know the first thing about virology and/or microbiology. Keep Carl Sagan's name out your flippin mouth! It's easy to slip into Will Smith's headspace...

I've got to the point where if I meet anyone in real life that tells me Covid is a hoax I just walk away. The last guy that did it was your typical type - it's always a plumber , electrician, or HVAC. One HVAC told me last year it was all a hoax to destroy his business. Not long after that his friend died of it

Many people choose to walk away to maintain their sanity and conserve their energy. I wake up every morning and choose violence. I pour the piping hot lava of knowledge into the unwilling skulls of the willfully ignorant who make living on this planet unbearable. Idiots are the reason we can't have nice things and it makes me angry enough to want to metaphorically crush skulls. Ah blood of my enemies, like a gentle rain.

You're so literal in your thinking that you must have autism. Do you have no understanding of the fact that things have nuance?

It's not really about virtuous , I just masturbate to the fact that right now there is someone in a retirement community on a ventilator who ignored all evidence for two years and they will now die. I'll get to enjoy the remaining oil on earth for one more day and they won't because they were too stupid

The only great generation is the one that fought against the agricultural revolution. We were meant to be hunter gatherers.

There were people who didn't like the industrial revolution, so I'm sure people fought bloody battles over the agricultural menace.

Anyway, how would you recognize nuance? It's outside your capabilities.

Apparently you don't know what hypocrite means either. What you need is a dictionary. Being autistic doesn't mean lacking the capability of nuance and those autistic scientists I mentioned for which your ungrateful ass doesn't have the decency to thank for their contribution that has improved life for everyone didn't lack nuance either. You're an ignorant ableist degenerate who doesn't know what the fuck you're talking about. Assholes like you need to be told to permanently STFU because your regressive ass contributes nothing of value.

Some goals very much have meaning. But I like what you've said here in the sense that most people are overly attached to the material possessions, to social image and status, much to their deteriment (I'm literally guilty of this, posting about being a millionaire status). Sometimes all you have is now, and it takes practice to appreciate what you have now in this moment, in the present. It's hard to do in practice, but is worth a try.
