Okay, so I've read the threads and discussions on when it comes to OD's - but I keep thinking about the celebs who have accidentally overdosed because of the combination of pills/drugs that they used (ex: Heath Ledger).

So, what about this type of method? Instead of just od'ing on a shit ton of klonopin or whatever, what about a combination of certain pills with others - has this been discussed here before? Surely this is something that just has to work if it's worked accidentally (or not accidentally) on others before. The question becomes, though - what pills and how many of each? There has to be something on this.

We have concluded that the manner of death is accident[al]
the mixture of drugs, combined with a possible chest infection, caused Ledger to stop breathing

Never heard of him or this, it can happen, in rare cases, especially if you have other health problems. You don't hear about the 9 other cases where it failed.
In this case it's unfortunate, he did not intend to die.

A few thoughts on this:
  1. There could be other health or pre-existing conditions that were never stated to the public, so saying celebrities successfully OD from pills is only half of the possible story. We do not know the exact circumstances that led to their death.
  2. Celebrities often have doctors that cater to that crowd and can get them stronger, more powerful medications than the normal public would have access to. Sometimes when they say a celebrity OD'd on "sleeping pills", that could be something that we do not have access to typically.
  3. You never know if other drugs were involved. Yes, they might have taken some pills, but you don't know if they were also taking heroin, cocaine, etc.
  4. Some celebrities have lived lifestyles full of drugs, which means they have a lot of organ damage, and could easily, and could more easily die from an OD. A normal person who has not done cocaine for 30 years might easily live through what they took.
  5. They were that one in a thousand cases that actually worked.

You hear about the famous people that have died from an OD, but you don't hear about the hundreds of people that go to the ER every day having lived through it. There are very few demonstrated concrete examples of pill combinations and amounts that actually reliably work. Outside of those, most OD's have been shown to fail.

Also, if you use random medications without knowing what they do, half of the pills you take could counteract the other half, and then you end up with just being a little sick and surviving. Taking random pills without a plan is a very lousy idea and, as evidenced by several threads on this site, leads to failure.

So, for example, a combination of Oxy and Valium, maybe some Ambian, and other pills - like Opioids combined with benzodiazepines and sleeping pills - if taken a certain large quantity, like 10 or 20 of each - something like that would still lead to failure?

I don't know why I always believed that OD'ing seemed like the simplest option. And I'm sure I'm not alone in having believed that, either.

But something like the example that I gave would STILL fail? Even if alcohol was also combined?

I actually think a mixture of depressants can lower the blood pressure significantly. Propanalol, like 3000mg, mixed with something

opioids + benzos is a relatively potent combination but the main issue with ODing with pills is that it's inherently unreliable. You definitely have a significant chance of dying from a mix of opioids, benzos, and alcohol, assuming you take a pretty large dose. But essentially, pills are very unreliable in how they are absorbed and metabolized. If you absorb them too slowly, or vomit before enough of the drugs are absorbed, you will not be successful. And for example, alcohol would make this combination more fatal, but also increase the chance of vomiting. Plus, if you fail you might end up with brain damage, lung problems/pneumonia from aspirating vomit, or other medical problems, especially if you are found after passing out but before dying.
So, it's not that overdoses can't be fatal, they absolutely can be. The issue is that it is extremely difficult for them to be reliable, since most pills take a relatively long time to absorb and there is a lot of variation in how they affect individuals.

For me, overdosing would never be on my list for one simple reason: if and I know it is an if, it does not work, and one wakes up wherever, the potential damage to organs, brain etc., would be too much for me.

I have mentioned on here before, of seeing a poor soul die from liver failure, and it was HORRIBLE to go visit him and his skin was yellow, his eyes were yellow and he was in extreme pain, no thank you.

Also, of course it is a maybe, BUT what happens if one gets brain damage and is sitting grueling and not knowing one's surrounds. OR any type of organ damage that could lead to a slow and painful way to leave this world, not for me.

I have always said that I am 100% pro-choice in everything in life, abortion, ctb anything, it just would be so darn hard on me knowing that one of the family on here, did NOT move on and instead is in a situation of hell. makes me cry even thinking of it.

Opiate is an OD. There is a thread for that. Everything else is recommended against I have observed.

Same with sn. I'm sure you read about failed cases in here. Actually od happens more often and most of the time is successful.

people die everyday from OD so yes it is possible, but it unreliable

if i was to ctb with OD then i would 100% mix all kinds of downers, benzo, alcohol, ghb, opiods, anything i get my hands on but it would still be a good change of waking up
