Does anyone of you obsess over the act of suicide itself? I've got a severely depressed friend who I occasionally speak to and he asked if I'm developing some sort of obsession towards suicide (he's the same person who linked me the video of the poor guy ctb'ing on Facebook via shooting).
I mean, I've obsessed over everything near me, but not in an insane way. I'm always curious about how things happen and how do they happen - and it happens to be suicide this time. How do people suicide, why, the methods, the variety of methods themselves etc.
So I've started reading many many medical books about suicide, watching videos etc...the same I'd do as If I was studying for my job. I can talk 24/7 abt pizza and bread as I can do with suicide.

I mean, am I really obsessing over suicide? Is this an insane thing I have to get rid of? Does anyone of you feel the same?

It is totally normal thing to do in my opinion.

I also think it may not be the most healthy thing for some people when they do, and it may cause them some problems to occur in their life when obsessing like this about suicide.

It is a fascinating subject to me; the act of suicide and available methods.

Wise words. Suicide is not something I really want and only started to think about it recently due to unemployment.
Now I have a job interview coming up but keep looking on here and obsessing about suicide instead of preparing for the interview

If I understand right, it's like a passion like some people have passion for real crime cases but aren't psychopaths, same with gore, horror, etc. I don't believe it's that wrong unless you're going to force people to ctb and if you made something out of it you could help science or you could write a thesis. I don't know, have fun anyways.

I wouldn't do that even if someone asks to pay. I just like reading and talking about suicidology, that's all. But I was wondering If I can consider that an "obsession" as the one I have for bread baking, or what else.

Of course you can. But you might avoid talking about it with people who don't understand ;)

It's taken over from football, running and travelling as the main thing I obsess over. Imo it can be considered an obsession

It's actually one of the steps of suicidal ideation. It's normal to focus on and learn more about what you want or interests you. I really miss r/watchpeopledie. It was cathartic to see how types of death play out. It wasn't a creepy fixation. I just like to learn everything I can.

It's morbid curiosity (because suicide is a taboo subject which makes it interesting).

Which could also be somewhat of an addiction. In the past my psychiatrist told me that people can be addicted to thoughts (alongside substances, actions, etc). Naturally you'd want to explore that thought and consume as much information as you can about it to keep your interest spiked.

Repeated thoughts and dwelling on things like this can lay down neural 'pathways', or 'roads' to travel along for in the mind and brain when done over and over again in this way.

It can actually change thought processing for a person from what it once was prior, to become something new and different.

Which is one of the reasons why major depressive disorder is such a hard thing to treat and recover from for a lot of people once this happens.

It's a normal thing in my opinion, but since I do that myself, I'm sort of biased. It's not something you have to get rid of unless you think it's negatively impacting you or your life.

It took you applying effort into doing what you did in coming here, and thinking of suicide in the way you have been doing recently.

It makes sense to me it will also require you to put in a similar effort now, to reverse it in some way for you, if that is what you want?

It could be leaving the site for awhile? It could be anything of your choosing that works for you, but it may require some effort..

Yes funnily enough I was thinking of having the weekend on here then taking a break.I actually disabled my account twice during the first 10 days but came back and have been on here constantly for the last month.

Good advice, thanks

Im absolutely obssessed.
Have real problems zoning out for ages during innapropriate times just fantasizing about my death
Pacing / rocking and playing a very specific kind of movie depicting how I will jump. Yet I dont really do anything to make it reality cause Im a scaredy cat.
When my bff was still alive he would catch me just staring blankly and ask what I am thinking about, it was akward when I replied 'Jumping' everytime.
Have a serious addiction to gore sites and creepypasta and even bought a book thats solely about the process of death.

I know I'm addicted to suicide; suicidal thoughts, reading about it, finding out about new ways to die, knowing I'm not the only one who wants to die. I think about it all the time. I find a certain comfort in planning my suicide (even the attempts that have quite obviously failed).
