I think feelings of regret are inevitable due to our physiology... any ideas on how to ignore these biologically driven feelings of instinctual regret?

How do you define regret? Do you feel sorry for those you'll leave behind? Do you think about what could've been?

In case of feeling sorry for others (parents/friends/etc)... I totally understand why it feels so hard to overcome that but it's really not about them. Nobody asked me if I wanted to come to this world. Nobody mentioned to me the dangers awaiting me. I am my own being and I don't owe anyone anything. They will be hurt, no denying that. But the world turns. A week, a month, a year, a decade, nobody knows how long it will take, but at a certain point, you won't be their biggest problem. It is life and the show must go on.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages." (Shakespeare, As You Like It, Act II, Scene VIII)

If you think about "what could've been", I don't have much to say. Personally, I don't pay much attention to that. The possibilities are endless, but the reality is what we have.

@gag_order No, I mean that biologically we are programmed to have survival instinct which conjures up feelings of regret no matter whether rationally we have fully decided to terminate our lives... for instance jumpers who report immediately "regretting" the jump - I think that's just because we are instinctually programmed to avoid danger, not because they actually regret their decision.

When you are really ready to ctb your mind is made up to it and there will be a little SI because we are programmed to live and survive in any case. But the logic will win in this particular case to defeat SI.

I don't think you can do much to battle SI other than firmly convincing yourself that you really want to exit. For hundreds of thousands of years, our brains have been programmed to survive and seek any means necessary to protect us, avoiding all sorts of possible dangers.

Unless you choose a method that will shut down your brain instantly, that is.

At the moment the only method that seems possible to me is manual strangulation with cable ties, but I have several problems... I need to find an excuse to stay away so there's less chance of interruption being one of the problems.. I don't have much energy for travel though so I'd rather do it during the night if I thought I'd get away with it.

Maybe some of the people who managed to ctb just got so determined to finally be free from everything which allowed them to overcome the SI. I envy those people for escaping from all the suffering in a world where suicide is purposely made so difficult.

I think that most people commit suicide during periods of stress when temporary psychological pain is the necessary shot of adrenaline for the courage to commit suicide. My guess is that most people here are like me - have chronic melancholy due to trauma and frustration that makes them think about death, but they cannot find now the courage to commit suicide, although logically they are well aware that they are just smoldering, not living. I once took several hundred digoxin tablets and now I know that the attempt can be unsuccessful and very painful. Before the failed attempt, I had no survival instinct)) now It's just the fear of pain. People have committed suicide by jumping out of the window of a burning building in an extreme situation - we, who ask such questions, are just in a smoldering building full of suffocating smoke, but not yet hot enough to make us jump)) I swallowed several hundred digoxin tablets with such confidence because of the absolute certainty that it was guaranteed to kill me - there was no survival instinct and no regrets. But it didn't work. Now I have a fear of failure, pain and the fact that I can become disabled.

Hmmm maybe, but I know for instance David Foster Wallace put zip ties around his arms, so he wouldn't be able to struggle. So he anticipated being thwarted by his SI and took preventative measures.
