Hello. I know there are mega threads about this but I am actually too depressed to dig through them all. I have three questions:

1) How does one buy a nitrogen tank without raising suspicion? Advice on shops? Would helium be better?

2) what does the purity percentage need to be and how do I ask for that if there are different ones.

3) I keeping reading diving mask vs trash bags/elastic and would like thoughts.

thanks all. Will really help me.

1) Welding shops / suppliers sell gasses for welding purposes, good place to buy because it has to be pure-ish for welding (balloon suppliers add c20% air so it won't work with for example balloon helium).

2) 99% is usually welding quality, that is perfect, I think (but can not remember) if 95%ish+ is okay - but welding suppliers will be as pure as you can get.

3) Diving mask - no need for regulator, but they are expensive, then need to adapt pipe to fit bottle. Bag on head - need to buy a regulator, they can be cheap or expensive, variable quality - the PPH/ mad dog (or whatever they call themselves) one is a cheap repurposed one from China. Then need tubing, make bag, etc.

1. Go to a welding supply shop for nitrogen. Nothing suspicious about that. Helium, you would need a high pressure tank from a party supply company. Not the low pressure one they sell in Walmart. Don't forget, you also need the regulators for both.

2. Not sure, but in either case, the shops won't have varying purities. You'll have to take what they sell.

3. Mask is more expensive and harder to set up, as you would need adapters. But offers a very secure seal on the face, and is probably more effective.
@Endeavour the mask would need a regulator. Those tanks are over 2000psi.

I wouldn't risk party supply helium from anywhere.

Masks like the one LA used have a built in regulator, you don't need an additional one - depends what tank of gas you buy.

In the US high purity nitrogen is also sold by stores that sell home brewery supplies. It is 99%-99.9% pure nitrogen.

Thank you so very much. Great resource. I have three questions that I don't see answered here if you don't mind:

1) what is the least nitrogen purity level for success?

2) Is a medical-grade nitrogen flow regulator essential or will an industrial one work?

3) I am not able to go online a purchase a nitrogen tank and will need to get in person. Do I need to worry about raising suspicions from a welding store?

Thanks!

Industrial-grade nitrogen (95 to 99%) is more than sufficient for CBT purposes.
2) Is a medical-grade nitrogen flow regulator essential or will an industrial one work?
This is completely up to you. Since money is worthless after CBT, my preference is for maximum safety and reliability. Nonetheless, I respect other members' opinion that an industrial regulator is good enough to do the job. The best analogy I can think of is a surgeon who chooses to employ a scalpel during surgery as opposed to using an Exacto-knife when it would do just fine.

No, nitrogen is readily available to the public. Say that you are preserving wine or brewing beer (think Guinness)! The most common reason is for welding applications.
All the best! Cheers

Yes, that is correct. A significant drop in oxygen will result in hypoxia. A higher level of purity will maybe speed up the process incrementally.

So if you have 95% pure gas, and you fill the bag properly, does that mean you potentially have 5% left of air if you were to use an oxygen meter on it?
As far as I know, only 99%+ and 80+20% are available. Why would you need an oxygen meter if you get the right gas?

Idk just to be sure! I might not have access to the right gas since I basically don't know how to talk to ppl I don't think they'd sell it to me, sand I think the only believable thing for me is food grade, which is only 97 % sometimes. If I said it's for laser cutting they could question me. Plus I'm a woman

If you live in America, I know that you can order your gas online. I am unsure of other jurisdictions.

The problem is shipping a cylinder filled at 2200psi is going to be pricey. Better to find a welding or industrial supply place and pick it up from them. n2 gas isn't regulated in any way in the us. No one is going to ask or care what you're using it for.
