I'm here because last year in a moment of rage I cursed the Trinity. Not just God and Jesus but also the Holy Spirit. I'm catholic (or was) and for some reason brought God into a moment of frustration. Now I feel worms all over my body and in my head. I feel like I'm wearing a crown of digging worms. I prayed about why this was happening and was led in the Bible to a verse about the one sin that's unforgivable "in this life and the life to come": blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And then other verses about worms ("hell is the place the worm that eats them does not die," "worms will crawl all over you") and learned that Herod Agrippa was struck down by worms for blasphemy and killed.

I'm a normal person. Lucid. Harvard grad. Was gainfully employed and prosperous until this year when I started feeling them.

God is telling me I got what I deserved.

I feel like this is an example of the simulacrum giving you exactly what you expect/manifest.

Here me out:

Like, based upon what you believe in, you can start to have experiences that affirm those beliefs.

What brought me out of Christian programming was realizing that every Christian sect purports to be the truth, and all of them are having their own unique mystical experiences that supposedly affirm them, yet they all contradict one another.

For example, only Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians have visions of saints or Mary, but never protestants.

Even in Islam, Muslims have seen the Prophet Muhammad in their dreams.

So, if there is only one true religion, or one true version of Christianity, why is God telling everyone something different?

Well, what if none of them are true at all?

What if "the matrix" just provides a finely tailored experience for you, based upon what you already believe in, given that belief itself is a very powerful substance that shapes your reality? So when you believe you are being condemned, because you believe that you blasphemed the Holy Spirit, you receive a result that affirms this.

Ah religion. In my humble opinion, a mechanism created by some very smart people back when mankind was still in its infancy in order to control.
I think of it with this metaphor. Imagine you bought a tiny puppy, and you put a cute little collar on it. What happens if you don't change that collar as the dog gets older and bigger…..

Hello. This sounds terrible. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me for saying this, but I am not convinced that you truly did blaspheme against the Holy Spirit when you did this. I am not Catholic and do not currently practice any religion (church trauma), but I've had some experiences that led me to try to figure out what things like this particular bible verse really mean (including this particular verse, LOL). Here is a thing written from the Catholic perspective that explains it. From my understanding, you can repent for what you did, and maybe that would make the worms go away. Please read the thing I linked to and see what you think.

Thanks. My mom has sent me that too. All the theology suggests that if you really committed it, you wouldn't know or wouldn't feel guilty. I had totally forgotten about the moment I blasphemed, and was only reminded of it when I prayed about it. It's been a slow motion horror story this last year. I was a totally normal person until this happened. It's like living in a world of one, where every priest is wrong and all the theology is wrong, but only you know.

I get it. Have you considered talking to a Catholic priest? It does seem to me as though you had a true spiritual experience that led you to the verse. But (forgive me) you still may have missed the overall point. I hope that makes sense? Have you continued praying since then? If not, maybe some additional prayer would provide clarity.

I've talked to several priests and one even offered an exorcism. Thank you for caring and being kind. I know it's an unusual story.

No, that's a sarcastic line (to me) about how if you "serve" a god, you'll get the mental psych out from reality eventually. I should have specified. You don't need to feel like you have worms because you cursed something that doesn't exist.

I'm sure I'm already in deep trouble if there is a God. There are certainly a few things that I've done that I'm not proud of. I DO genuinely regret them but personally- I don't think that's enough... I knew they were wrong when I did them. I probably to deserve to pay for them.

That said, I suppose I've never understood the deal with blasphemy. If I created something sentient that then went on to suffer terribly because of issues that were inherant to it's design- I hope I'd understand that it could very well feel angry with me. WHY do we have to accept that every bad thing that happens to us was somehow deserved- or part of some bigger plan? We were 'blessed' with the intelligence to question and the emotion to feel things intensely. Is it REALLY the influence of the devil that leads us to disobey God? Didn't Lucifer come after mankind anyway? I don't know. I just get SO frustrated with religion...
