My insomnia is driving me crazy! Do anyone else have difficulties falling and/ or staying asleep?

My cause is stress! I'm always so overwhelmed with racing thoughts. My brother death anniversary is also coming up, so it's been rough. Tinnitus is the cause of my insomnia, i don't sleep without sleeping pills, even with sleeping pills benzodiazepines, only give me 2-3 hours, if i increase the dose, it will help temporarily, as soon as my body tolerates it will loose its efficacy.
Yes, stress induced insomnia is treatetable? Have u seen counselor? How many hours do you sleep per day? Do you sleep normally still? Without pill?My cause is stress! Only being able to sleep for 2-3 hrs sounds difficult. When you wake up do you take another one or stay awake? I think with all sleeping medications at some point they won't work anymore.
I don't see a counselor, but my medical doctor have prescribed me everything. I usually take a mix of Tylenol pm, benadryl, blood pressure medicine and cough syrup. It takes some time and I eventually fall asleep. I can then sleep the whole day away. I will wake up and able to fall back to sleep with no problem. Only the days when I have to work I can't take all of that stuff and then I struggle. My only hope is one day I won't wake up! When i wake up, i don't take it anymore, it i take more, double up the dose , it will be effective temporarily and that same dose won't work anymore.
What is everything? Racing thoughts are a symptom of bipolar disorder (but not always indicative of it). 2-3 hours a night is terribly low. That's potentially an emergency. Sleep is how your body repairs itself. You need to go to a psychiatrist or a different doctor. You're right about your medicine, take it as prescribed. If yours can help you stay asleep longer then that would be great.
I never heard of the OTC's you mentioned except melatonin. I will search for the others when I got out.Don't take benzos. Just take something natural like Valdoxan, Circadin, or melatonin. I know I'm an anomaly, but I took 0.5mg of Ativan for seven days straight and suffered from interdose withdrawals. I'm still suffering from post-acute withdrawal.
I didn't sleep at all for 10 days straight (it actually is possible beause you can feel every passing minute when you try to sleep), I lost my appetite, and today whenever I try to take a nap I feel like I can't breathe. I never dreamt for a decade, but now I dream every time I sleep because my mind can't shut off normally. I can't sleep for an 8-hour stretch like I used to as well.
Oddly though, I took 0.5mg of Xanax for five days straight but was fine.

omg you're right. F for reading comprehension for me. I read two posts like they were one. FAILI never heard of the OTC's you mentioned except melatonin. I will search for the others when I got out.
I've never heard of interdose withdrawals but it sounds terrible!
The good news is you have something to help you, even if it only gives you up to 4 hrs. It's a safe method, mines isn't. Hopefully, I can find something soon.

I don't have bipolar disorder. Racing thoughts to me means I have a lot of things to put into perspective, a lot of challenging decisions to make, bad memories continue to flood my mind, trauma, etc, etc. Maybe that's not the actual definition of racing thoughts but that's what i meant.
I was a normal sleeper before (found it difficult to fall to asleep but when I do I could have 8 hour stretches or nap 2 hours during the day), but I kept waking up at 2am for a month because I had caffeine withdrawal (I stopped taking coffee immediately). Instead of prescribing me something natural like melatonin, Valdoxan, or Circadin, this doctor decided to prescribe me Ativan to help me with the insomnia. It did the exact opposite. It started off with being unable to nap, having strange lucid dreams, losing my appetite (my stomach stopped rumbling), and then to having no sleep. I didn't even think it was the drug in the first place. Today, I still suffer from the effects (I'm eight months out). I have to sleep between 12am and 8am otherwise even though no matter how sleepy I am throughout the day, I can't sleep.
