Hi. I was messing around a bit with my makeshift belt noose. I was just trying to see if I could find the "sweet spot" and to what extent my SI was affecting me. Unfortunately, I managed to give myself some minor bruising on my neck. I've been keeping the area cold so as to prevent it from getting worse, but I have plans on Sunday to spend the day with my mother, and I really cannot have her getting suspicious. What are the best ways to hide it, prevent it from getting worse, or if all else fails, explain it to her? It's minor enough that I can't pick it up on camera much (if at all), but I would like to err on the safe side, as I do think it is more noticeable IRL.

I had a love bite on my cheek and I couldn't hide it completely, so I used a cream to cover it up.
May be you can apply a cream or cover it with a cloth or towel or may be a bandaid or wear your shirt in a way that it's not apparently visible. If it was winter season, a muffler would have made it easier to hide it

Concealer makeup might do the trick. Or a collared shirt. If all else fails, consider making up an alibi. Several years ago, I was in a very similar situation and told my parents it was a sexual thing, which although false and embarrassing, it may be less embarrassing than admitting to a failed attempt. Maybe you can find something believable that could work as a potential lie, in case your attempt to hide it fails.

I was thinking about making up a mysterious 10 page paper that i simply HAD to stay home and finish before Monday, but I'm unsure how believable that will be. I might pick up makeup at the store and see how that helps. thank you for the advice

I wish it wasn't so hot out, or you're right, it would be a lot easier to hide. some kind of makeup or cream would probably help a lot. At least now I know not to mess around with this stuff unless im 100% sure it's what I want, lol

Good luck .
Haha yes, carotid/sweet spot is so messed up. Some people are able to find and utilise it very easily on the other hand some of us struggle with it despite all the tries.
Someone suggested me to use the belt from the bathing robe. So, may be that can help you

I've been able to get it a few times, but I always get scared and back out; I've only done 2 "dry runs" so far, as I'm not 100% sure it's completely what I want. It doesn't feel too bad or painful, but it sure is scary!

At the age of 14 I hanged myself just out of cuirosity and had bloody bruises on my neck. When my mother saw the bruises, she laught and asked whether I tried to hang myself. Her reaktion confused me, it seems to be total normal for her, when a young guy experiments with hanging.
Don't try to hide your bruises, if our mother asked, tell her the truth. Maybe she did the same at your age.

My mother has already accused me of being suicidal before (I'm not even sure that I am now), and she threatened to have me sent to a psych ward. I don't really want her to try to pull that stuff again. I'd rather avoid it altogether; your mother's reaction sounds very strange.

That's certainly scary.. because one wrong move can end up in brain damage without killing you. That's much worse situation to be in.

So concealer won't cover up bruises perfectly. The color will mostly likely be peeking out, I had similar experience with that. But color correction will help to cover up IMG 0699
I'm attaching color wheel here for reference. Basically, whenever you want to neutralize the color, you need to use opposite of it. Usually for pinkish/light purple bruises- green color corrector concealer is your friend. You usually add that on the bruise, blend it in and when the color is persisely gone - use concealer to make it fully match your skin tone
Side note, if your bruises are multiple colors, you can buy a color correction pallet, instead of one concealer as it would help match skin closer.

I hope that helps!
Also, I hope you'll be able to find peace in a form that matters to you, good luck, traveler
