Claiming nature is not cruel because it lacks intent is a faulty argument. Out of the trillions of realities that could have possibly governed reality, it just so happens that pain exists in our universe as an undesirable that an organism does not seek to attain.
In addition to that, cruelty does not require intent. Cruelty is the consequence of an action, regardless of intent (or the lack thereof).
Sentient or not, nature still perpetually tortures then slaughters all life. Makes a trillion Hitler's look like teddy bears by comparison. Whoever stands with nature stands with tyranny on a level that could never be achieved by self aware individuals. even if you were to nuke the whole planet nature would still be king of the slaughterhouse
nature It just is.....torturing us! it still doesn't mean it's a good thing or that we should ignore it. Cancer (brought to you by nature) is non-sentient yet slaughtered 10 million people in 2018. That's more victims then died during the Holocaust. Since we are the only part of nature that is sentient, we have an ethical obligation to try and fight against it. Antinatalism, the universal right to die for everyone who wants it, and reducing harm as much as possible are all steps in the right direction.
The fact that nature is not sentient is irrelevant. What matters is that it destroys the lives of countless living beings. Nature's intentions don't matter. What matters is nature's results.
