I was wondering if there is any kind of correlation between Myer Briggs type personality and people on here wishing to CBT? It kind of helps me to understand my own life and need to CBT.

I am an INFP and many say this modern life is possibly the hardest for us very sensitive, introverted, misunderstood, empathetic types who can easily be taken advantage of and don't readily fit into society's expectations. Good nurturing and support from ones family is very important, but perhaps very critical for the INFP, given that we are so sensitive in nature. It could help us to succeed as artists, poets, teachers etc, but without it, we are possibly doomed for failure and chronic depression. I think a lot of parents could not relate or understand the needs of the INFP child. My parents and sibling, were very controlling, judgemental and used religion as a means of control and abuse. This must be particularly bad for the very imaginative spiritual INFP type. The positive thing about the INFP is that we are able to escape the negativity of this world and live on our own surrounded by our imagination and the things we love, like pets and nature, but doing so costs money, something that has been very unattainable for me, given my inability to succeed in this world. If I'd had another Myer Briggs type personality maybe I could of made something of myself, or if I'd had the support and love I needed from my family, perhaps things would of been very different. I imagine this is relevant to many of use given, the importance of upbringing on everyone and not just the INFP person.

Heard the Myer-Briggs test is unreliable, and the statistics do suppprt that claim, but it does explain so much. Anyway, I wasn't always that type, I don't think, but now I'm an INTJ. I hate it, because it's very lonely (and for a suicidal person pure hell), but at the same time I wouldn't change it for the world.

I'm INTP. However I don't think it's super accurate. I think I get that result because of my autistic traits

I am an INTP. There was another thread collecting everyone's types. The only really common factor I saw was an extremely heavy indication toward introverts. Maybe it has something to do with not fitting into society or feeling acceptance.

INTJ Enneagram type 5, so the tests I have taken say. Seems to be a connection with mostly introverts, there is a lot of loneliness and isolation.

I'm also INFP but that ended up causing someone who was actually romantically interested in me to give up on me because she was afraid I'd get too attached to her. She was probably right though. Apparently being INFP also makes most typical jobs feel worse than they already are so that's fun.

MBTI is not considered to be a reliable way to test for personality and wasn't even created by psychologists. It was created by two women with no background in psychology or any adjacent field. So even if there were to be a correlation between MBTI and suicide (which there likely isn't) it wouldn't mean anything.

I simply read the title and immediately thought "INFP". Reading your details only confirmed this further.

While MBTI is considered a pseudoscientific test now, I think in general terms, we INFPs are more likely to be suicidal if not committing suicide.

It is a questionable method
Here's a quote

"The MBTI is often criticized in the psychological community for its lack of scientific robustness, particularly in terms of validity and reliability. This means that it may not be a reliable tool for making predictions about mental health or behaviours as serious as suicide."

I realise the test is unreliable and very questionable, but it certainly has helped me make sense of how I have ended up on here. Doesn't appear to be much consistency other than we are a bunch of introverts who don't generally fit into society.

Kind of agree with this. Her ego sounds overinflated and you are just looking to be loved and to love. Dodged a bullet there.

In 2012, I was actively suicidal and prepared my first CTB kit.
I was ISTJ then.
I threw away the kit then, but in 2023, I became severely suicidal again and set up a different method.
I was ENFP.

I can be logistician (ISTJ) or campaigner (ENFP),
but I always dance with the grim reaper.

ENFP.. I'm usually the 'happiest' and most cheerful n optimistic person in every room lol..

I usually prefer uplifting words but i haven't been able to lift my own depression so far. I'm so sorry for your situation...

I keep coming back to MBTI for fun over the years. I know, you're not supposed to take personality tests like this seriously. Also self-reporting kind of sucks because we're more complicated than what we represent to ourselves. That aside... I usually got INTP or INFP. I'm only confident about the P and N. F/T and I/E seem to flip around depending on how I grow as a person and how life treats me.
