I met with a new psychiatrist because the two before this just swapped jobs or who they worked for. When I met with her via zoom we had our normal talk about where i was at and what i was taking. I had stopped taking my meds a while ago and i had to tell her about my pat and about my attempt. When I told her about the time i did the kneeling hanging method and was able to lose consciousness briefly but slumped to the side opening my airway she said "holy shit" pretty loud which I thought was kinda odd.

She said "So you had like a real attempt" and laughed which idk i didn't really like. And then finally she was talking to me and asking me questions about OCD stuff and about my excessive thinking. She said "Let's see what chatGPT thinks" and then spent some time typing and then told me soem advice chatgpt told her that i honestly forget i was just thinking about how she was using chatgpt for advice and stuff but idk i just was wondering other people's thoughts on this if they read it.

I've used chatgpt before for questions and what not but idk it felt like it didn't belong in an appointment.

I read another story from a psychiatrist using chatGPT. It's a shame but a lot of doctors are using it now.
But if it can help the patient, why not. The real problem is : why pay a doctor if AI can give the same answers for free ??
We live in a fucking sick world...

omg fucking god I thought I couldn't be even more disappointed in mental health workers but this has hit a new low. If they have to use AI for this they are so under-qualified that they need to be put into jail cus this feels like just a scam if they needing help from AI. I am sorry we all facing people who not able to effectively help us at all and this world constantly encouraging us to get this horrible help.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I like that it can give good answers but I don't really want someone I pay to use it and what not

This is the literal insanity "mentally ill" people are subjected to, lol. I am so sorry this happened to you. It is so hard to trust professionals, and even more so when they barely take their own job seriously.

^ Uhh, this little gem here is highly inappropriate.

The AI thing -- its use will be widespread in professional environments all across the spectrum. The unusual bit here is that the doctor actually announced it at all, let alone used it in the middle of an appointment.

"Let's see what ChatGPT says" is becoming the new "Let me Google this."

To me, the question isn't so much about AI being consulted at all as it is about the user's ability to scrutinize the information they get out of it. Personally, I'd be OK with my doctor using it, but AI still seems too new for doctors to be openly announcing it to patients. It's kind of like, "Go ahead and talk to AI as you see fit, but just don't tell me about it." We're not there yet.

Giving her the benefit of the doubt: Some psychiatrists are medication-focused and indisposed to providing much in the way of psychotherapy. If this was a situation where she was just looking to provide some quick advice outside the scope of her practice, then I would concede some validity in this. That is, if it was either this, or no advice at all, perhaps the spontaneous ChatGPT consult was the preferred option, even if on a "suboptimal" vs "very suboptimal" basis.

Get a different psychiatrist. If that stupid bastard is asking AI for advice she will not help you at all. She laughed at you, and clearly had no idea how to deal with someone with actual problems. AI doesn't actually know anything, and anyone who says otherwise is a gullible bootlicker.

Proud bootlicker here — AI is surprisingly resouceful and has helped me numerous times. The main issue with what she did was announcing that she was using it and also laughing at the patient.

This just sounds fucking outrageous, and I firmly believe you should find a new psychiatrist immediately rather than sticking with her; it's not even an issue of finding the 'right' one, she outright shouldn't even have the job…

This is why people don't get the help they need I was in a similar situation, I had to go to this place for 'help', the woman I had to speak to would laugh when I brought things up which really crushed my hope to even want help, then a few months later I went to another place where another woman basically interrogated me, told me she'll 'see me next week' then never spoke to me again

this would make me tweak out and start yelling. why would a licensed therapist say "holy shit" to someone attempting suicide and laugh at you for being so distressed you actually attempted suicide with the intent to die??? this is so upsetting. i hope you never go to her again and report her. i also hate that she would use AI and type what you said verbatim into the chat instead of think of what to say to you herself.

Yeah i thought that was really weird :( She offered to do an in person adhd test which my mother has really been wanting me to do so I didn't say anything yet and will go for the test but if anything else is weird I can for sure report her.

That's so awful i'm so sorry :( I've also had my fair share of bad doctors that make me feel really bad. I wish the best for you <3
AI is going to fuck up and kill so many people, all in the name of forcing the economy forward. I saw a Reddit post yesterday that explained in great depth how all the "growth" in the economy was literally seven different AI companies moving around invisible money. It's a bubble, and it will crash, and when it does, the world will feel it. And it will be bad.
I saw something very similar as well with the money bubble with just a handful of companies. It's so scary :( Idek what to do about it cause what can i even do yk?

Yeah I've definitely asked ai a lot of questions for a while and it's helped me but yeah i agree just how she was doing everything

Thank you for your reply ^^ I honestly should have just given her the benefit of the doubt for the chatgpt stuff since I've used it as well and it has given me soem good advice. I feel like you are right though i guess i just didn't really like hearing it yet. It is pretty much like google and i don't think i would have had as big as a problem if she had said google.

I don't know her too well of course but i did not like how she responded to other stuff for sure but I have a follow up with her in person pretty soon cause i didn't wanna just drop her immediately idk i wanted to give it another try just to be sure. Thank you again for your in depth reply and I like the idea that it's about the users ability to scrutinize the information it gives them.

I just got back from my psychiatrist and she uses ChatGPT too. I asked her for interaction between the drugs I take and she said in front of her computer "wait, I'll see"... I just asked ChatGPT too and the answer is exactly the same lol. She didn't know one of the drug I take and asked me to spell it. Okay they cannot know all the drugs on the market, and I can understand that AI is useful for doctors, but it's really questionable...

ב''ה, not accepting a doctor's use of GPT is a new billable diagnosis now, ODD until they add an ODD (Robophobic) subtype.

Also some people just specifically take the career path to see how much money they can make while racking up the attempts/body count, since profits are the only reason to be in a job and attempts mean more billable work for the industry. It's that or prison, after all.

ב''ה, always ask the pharmacist; the doctor only has the responsibility to prescribe, not to even know what the medication does or if it works, let alone interactions.

The pharmacist, if asked and provided the full list of meds, may at least have liability for interactions if specifically asked.

Me: Hello, I would like to be hired for <insert important job here>.

Employer: What are your skills?

Me: I have a ChatGPT Pro subscription.

Employer: You're hired! *picks up phone to call* Chris? You're fired! We got someone we can pay a fraction of what we pay you! What, you're saying AI slop is bad? Shut up, I don't care, I'm above the 1%, It'll never affect me anyway. Also, bring me coffee! *ends call*

That said, It's disgraceful that someone who literally had years of study and learning to actually do their job right have to rely on notoriously unreliable Gen AI. If that's the case, Gen AI is not stealing jobs, but humans are willingly giving them to Gen AI, which may be an even bigger disgrace.
