hello people! just joined in!

ive been lurking around for a while, but what made me decide on joining for real is kinda stupid.

this past few months have been hard on me, ive been skipping college, couldn't keep up my freelances, and distanced myself quite a lot from my "family" and "friends". it's been rough. i also made minimal contact with my psychologist, and spent like three full weeks without any appointments. when we finally met again she suddenly said she couldn't be my therapist anymore, that my case was "too complex" and she basically was giving up on me...

is this normal? can they just... do that? do you guys have any crazy stories like that with therapists or does this just happen with me?

Welcome to SaSu! No matter what your therapist says, you're not beyond helping. I haven't heard of a therapist doing that before, but that doesn't surprise me at all. People can be awful sometimes, I'm sorry. I hope you can find more help here than you got from them

Wild that your therapist said your case is "too complex"! Kinda f'ed up if you ask me. Surely, and I'm not asking for details, your problems aren't that complicated. Hopefully they weren't the only therapist you can see. Good luck finding one that will help you.

At least in my area, they're required to at least give a recommendation/refferal before dropping you. They can skirt around that by basically just saying the name of a therapy practice or two, though. That's what one of mine did.

I'm sorry to hear your therapist said that. I've had a therapist give up on me because she could tell I wasn't putting effort in and i met my requirements post-inpatient so she didn't want to waste either of our time. I kinda appreciated the blunt honesty. Our last session, she told me I would never get better if I didn't take initiative and put the necessary work in.

I get dropped by therapists a lot. Usually though, they deem my case "too complex" before I've even had a proper intake meeting. Always when I was trying the hardest to get better.
