Today's musical quiz, which singer posses posses the widest vocal range in popular music according to VVN? I'm unsure how exactly this was tested but I saw the vocal ranges listed previously a year or so ago. It included most of the heavyweights from rock music and many of the mainstream pop stars. Seeing how the ranges were charted out makes me nearly positive that it was computer analyzed. Just thinking about this again, I'll search and post it, assuming I can track it down.
The winner of the vocal range possess range of six octaves. Not sure what this exactly means but I think a range of 4 is really good. Perhaps someone who sang choir in high school can chime in and explain what six octaves means. Of course I could Google, but I want some engagement.....
@Mm80 before you get all ancy and chatty with me behind the scenes, the winner was not the construction worker from the Village People, and yes, I agreed with you that the Village People truly were vanguard.
The winner of the vocal range contest was Mike Patten. Here is my favorite song of his from Faith No More - Strip Search. His voice sounds angelic to me on the high notes and at the highest notes sends chills up my spine.
Found the list and it's attached below.
Growing up I always thought David Bowie had the best range and he is on the list, but beat out by David Lee Roth? SMH. I am a huge fan of both, but don't see that.....
Does anyone of you hear David Lee having more range than Bowie? I know both reasonably well. One of you big Van Halen fans post a video that you feel best shows David Lee's range, because I can't hear it.
If your musically curious, do yourself a favor, and take a quick look at the attached list. It's laid out well and easy to read.
